So I’ve recently upgraded my starter edition account but I still want to play on my lvl 20 characters every now and then. Problem is, as soon as I’ll log onto them, They’re gonna level up due to the new exp stacking at lvl 20 system. My question is: is there a way to block my characters’ exp without logging into them? or am I absolutely forced to make them level up in order to play them?
Thank you!
To my knowledge, you can not lock experience with out logging in.
So it would seem, but hopefully a GM could manually do it, as a GM once manually unlocked my locked exp.
That would be dependent on circumstances where a GM would need access to fix a character issue, but normally they put the hold on, then take it off again when they are done. The time frame you had this happen for you, might not coincide to how things work now.
A quick search does show that the banked experience does stop before you hit level 21 though, so my guess is that you will still be at level 20 when you log in and can then put experience lock on via the normal in game mechanic.
The problem is that a new discovery in game might give you enough experience to push over the cap, and then you would not have access to the character if you decided to go back to inactive status.
However it would appear that the banked xp can go as high as level 30. In which case you would probably log in and go right to that level.
Ultimately, I am probably going to side on the start a new character to level and leave any character you want to stay at 20 alone.
Starter account characters can bank up to 10 levels of XP startting at level 20. Banked XP does not stop before level 21. You can hover the cursor over the XP bar to see how many levels a starter account character has banked.
Up to 10 levels of banked XP is immediately applied when the character logs in after the account goes paid.
At one time, you could pay the 10 g to XP lock a starter account but the lock would be automatically removed when the account went paid.
They have since removed the ability to XP lock a starter account and I would think that ability could not be added on the fly by a gm.
Already made the mistake of logging onto my warrior and I dinged 30 instantly. I upgraded for 7 months so I’m gonna have to wait 7 months without logging onto my lvl 20’s it seems.
yup that would seem like it. Honestly, I wish they left it as it was.
You could probably recreate those charcters within the next seven months anyway. I always seemed to spend more time gearing, profession leveling, and bagging starter account characters than actually leveling them to 20. With a paid account, you would have access to more resources for fitting out the new level 20’s.
Very good point, but unfortunately it’s not that easy. You see, the idea of me upgrading came out of the blue. I had planned to be starter for the rest of my life, so I really invested in it. For example, I have been saving tickets for the Darkmoon mount and if I were to log onto that char, I’d probably not be able to afford it when my sub ends, and if I don’t I will have wasted 7 months without doing dailies. It’s a little complicated.
I can appreciate your situation.
Try submitting a ticket asking for the XP on that character to be locked prior to logging in.
I don’t think they can do it but don’t really know and it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I Would offer to pay the 10g xp lock fee if the character has that amount, or from another character on the same realm/faction just to demonstrate that i wasn’t just trying to avoid the fee.
Thank you for you suggestion, that’s what I’m going to do.
