I first watched Star Wars in a drive-in theater from the back of a Pinto wagon during the first week or so of its release. It was… more influential on me as a child than any other work of entertainment. I lived Star Wars for pretty much all of my pre-high school years.
The problem is… most kids today wouldn’t be interested in “old” movies. Having two kids myself, I can tell you that they still - to this day - have little interest in seeing Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi, but The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were on top of their lists, and we’re all anxious to see The Rise of Skywalker. Especially since we live close to Disneyland, have annual passes, and spend lots of time at Galaxy’s Edge.
I think Disney did the right thing with the new Star Wars movies.
