I first watched Star Wars in a drive-in theater from the back of a Pinto wagon during the first week or so of its release. It was… more influential on me as a child than any other work of entertainment. I lived Star Wars for pretty much all of my pre-high school years.
The problem is… most kids today wouldn’t be interested in “old” movies. Having two kids myself, I can tell you that they still - to this day - have little interest in seeing Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi, but The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were on top of their lists, and we’re all anxious to see The Rise of Skywalker. Especially since we live close to Disneyland, have annual passes, and spend lots of time at Galaxy’s Edge.
I think Disney did the right thing with the new Star Wars movies.
I have not seen the latest, I was kinda hoping they would turn her into a blue glowing version that didn’t talk but just nodded pleasantly when the actual actors spoke.
I personally think the prequels had a good story. Sure, there were a few duds like miticlorians and jar jar, but it was cohesive and did a decent job showing a rise to power for palpatine and the straying of the path for anakin.
The sequels though are another story. The force awakens was essentially a scene for scene reboot of A New Hope. Whether you like or dislike this seems to be down to the individual and either has merits. However, there seems to be no consistent story throughout and it’s just a mess.
Nah. WoW has genuinely good art. The Disney Star Wars movies just look way too artificial to me. Like an alien trying to look like something but always looking off somehow.
The irony of this is that no one enjoys Greek epics anymore because we refuse to reintroduce them to the younger generations as entertainment and instead use them as schoolwork.
I highly recommend Mandalorian. By far, the best story told in Star Wars since Brackett and Kasdan wrote Empire Strikes Back.
They also share the art from the storyboards that help create each episode during the credits.
I still want them to let me buy the theatrical versions. I can’t stand all that crap Lucas went back and added. That song and dance scene in Return of the Jedi infuriates me.
I can’t give spoilers, but you should see what “Baby Yoda” (it’s not Yoda) was up to in the latest episode; he might be cute but he’s no longer innocent after traveling with Mando. He’s also not a baby. He’s 50 years old. Yoda’s race lives over 700 years.
Agreed. They came out when I was born, I watched them in the 80s and they are still fantastic movies. Should have never “expanded” on them. They are fine on they’re own.
Says the Worgen who is shaped funny and not intimidating at all as a “werewolf”. I’ve said for a long, long time that the Worgen model should have been done like the original Mob model in Duskwood pre-cata.
Pretty much this,I love both franchises but both suffer fickle fanbases who’ll get angry no matter what they do. Stay the same -nerd rage try something new- nerd rage,no winning really.
Yeah, the rage at Disney for taking over makes no sense to me. We wouldn’t have any more Star Wars movies if Lucas didn’t sell it. He was done. Plus, he started the kid/toy grabs with Ewoks; they’re not doing anything he didn’t already do.
I at least give the Mouse House credit for trying new things with Rogue One and Mandalorian, which are dark and probably as violent as Star Wars is ever going to get. Even the Han Solo movie, even if it’s not one of my favorites, had a great ending–Han shot first!
Aye, I do love Mandalorian, while TLJ could have been better, doesn’t make the franchise completely a lost cause. Same with WoW,sometimes Blizz will knock it out of the park, sometimes it won’t be as well received especially with the gaming community as a whole staying perpetually jaded these days rather than get excited about games.
