Not really free because the friend still has to pay each month and buy the game and a sub in the first place so blizzard makes the money ether way

Friend pays a sub for one month, you get a month for free. That’s two months of gametime given out, with only one paid for. That is what free means.

They used to all the time back when Tuesday’s almost always saw the servers offline.

Not to shill for Blizzard, but Blizzard doesn’t need to give out free game time to have people try the game.
FFXIV also relies on giving out free game time because A Realm Reborn sucks and I wouldn’t suggest anyone ever have to pay for it. They’ll literally pay you with game time if you’re willing to stomach it. That’s not a position of strength my dude. FFXIV has improved massively but ARR still exists and it sucks.

This is so true… FF14 finally starts to get better if you can break away from ARR, but that process is a king and grueling one.
To the OP: you don’t need to start a WoW vs. FF14 thread. Go do something productive rather than stirring the pot. People can enjoy whatever games they want, no matter your opinion.

Blizzard has never been good at rewarding their long-term loyal customers. There was the statue bit that one time, but instead of being a cumulative 10 year mark you can hit at your own pace, it was a one-time deal. Think I missed it by about 2 weeks. Yes I’m still salty.
Would be nice if they had Time Subbed FoS achievements with increasingly nice rewards, or at least throw your veterans an in-game care package or WoW token once in a while.

Thanks for letting us know it only takes 15 “free” days of some arbitrary value in video game time for a game company to get you to advertise for them for essentially no cost.
It’s almost like how the many times WoW gave out a free month along with a box purchase or how I can just play the game, earn lots of gold and the game let’s me play for free.
But whatever floats your boat, some people can be bought way too cheaply
