It’s funny to look back at all the people who tried justifying Square Enix’s FFXIV having a cash shop while trying to say WoW having a cash shop was bad. And with the news regarding Square Enix looking into endorsing NFTS it’s so satisfying. Of all the things Blizzard has done, at least they haven’t thought about endorsing a literal scam trend (That’s what NFTS are). It will be interesting to see if some of the FFXIV cash shop supporters keep up the notion that FFXIV’s cash shop is fine with the development that Square Enix is inquiring about how they can put a scam trend into their monetization scheme. Blizzard’s shop isn’t nearly close to the level of scummy of what Square Enix wants to do. It’s way worse to endorse the next scam trend than just run a cash shop.
If Blizz wasn’t already a topic of so much being wrong in the company they would be drinking the NTF koolaid like everyone else. They also never said they are putting NTFs into final fantasy online… yet.
Dude bobby has like 5 helicopters watch out.
WoW rules again!!! Thank you, Blizzard for not being terribad like SE.
They already talked about it in a report and endorsed it. Imagine if a gaming company took the time to endorse one of those indian tech support scam companies. I imagine that people would be angry. NFTS are a scam. Endorsing them even without trying to monetize them yourself is bad enough.
idc about the NFT because the money from the shop go into the game , Yoshi P is the best
Yep.
When on bad terms…you don’t want to add gasoline to the fire.
they can, and probably did, look to eve for that. Them NFT’ing tournament rewards did not go well.
And for a few years now…they have been shooting themselves in the foot. Guess they missed a piece of foot…and took aim on this call. Oh crap we missed a piece. Click click boom… got it.
Given all of the problems with the ‘old code’ as of late in FF14… I’d be a bit surprised if that game is deemed ‘modern’ enough to actually be able to handle it, or worth spending the effort to upgrade.
Gotta hop onto the hype and milk those dolla dolla$ somehow
Corporate know how to roll in the greeen.
Im sure they have plans to put them into their games but just wont be making any major announcements yet. If NFTs are here to stay (hopefully not) then everyone is going to jump on that band wagon to milk the playerbase for more money. Who would actually buy NFTs in a video game that is replace yearly. MMOs are prime real estate for this scam though so having them show up into games like WoW/Destiny wouldn’t suprise me.
CCP got it in eve code.
Its old as hell spaghetti code. Older than wow even. It could work.
They got it in and the game didn’t have player owned stations (or some new name now…I use POS still) go skynet.
An eve inside joke. every time they patch the game big or small…player owned stations could get confused and shoot at the actual owner of the thing lol. That is how spaghetti their code is. Made patch nights interesting. Will my pos shoot at me today? Sucks when it happens too…
It was mentioned in a report that they see the pros and cons of NFTs. They didn’t say they were doing it.
I’m sure Blizzard will try this at some point too. Greed and anti-consumer practices will always reign supreme if the people keep buying it.
They only mentioned the pro’s. Incorrect information.
Straight from his letter:
Another term that gained quick currency in 2021 was “NFT” or “non-fungible token.” The advent of NFTs using blockchain technology significantly increased the liquidity of digital goods, enabling the trading of a variety of such goods at high prices and sparking conversations the world over. I see 2021 not only as “Metaverse: Year One,” but also as “NFTs: Year One” given that it was a year in which NFTs were met with a great deal of enthusiasm by a rapidly expanding user base. However, we do observe examples here and there of overheated trading in NFT-based digital goods with somewhat speculative overtones, regardless of the observed value of the content provided.
that’s not really a mention of any of it’s cons. I’m not interested in splitting hairs or semantics.
I am not on the side of either company, as both seek money.
But I doubt endorsing NFTS is worse than many scandals going on, the lore being put far on the backburner and the low effort for big gains mentaility that I feel Blizz has, though.
And no, I am not a FF main, I am more of a WoW main.
But saying FF is worse due to NFTS? I disagree.

Have no idea what nfts is, but by reading the comments its looks like it is the end of the world as we know it. Blame REM, or losing my religion not me
it’s basically a mention of the drama surrounding them. that’s not a con of NFTS themselves. a proper con would be the strain it puts on games and how NFTS are generally bad for the environment. that is a real con.
