Hey guys, I’m still gearing up but am having a really hard time figuring out which legendary to craft for Shadow PvP. It seems like the 3 most intriguing would be;
- Painbreaker Psalm
- Talbadar
- Sephuz
I WANT talbadar to be good, but I hear mind blast doesn’t hit very hard to begin with. Also with lasting plague going away in 9.1 it will be harder to hit as many MB’s into a fully dotted target
Sephuz just seems really boring. Psalm I guess could be fun, just not sure how effective it is.
What do you guys think/like to run? Thanks in advance!
You’re pretty much looking at Sephuz 99.99% of games for Spriest. It’s boring, but it’s just 10x better than anything else. Only other one I’ve seen is people playing the Shadow Mend one if they’re playing Shadowplay since they won’t be getting trained.
Sadly it’s kinda troll to not be playing Sephuz. It’s boring, but it’s the best.
Dang : ( Is it the throughout from the stat increase or the 10% on crowd control that carries the power of Sephuz? If the stat jump helps pump damage then that’s okay to me I guess… I just didn’t know how much extra dmg it would do.
Since you’re being trained 99 games out of 100 having 10% flat CC reduction is big. The stat increase is the cherry on top. At least that’s what I’ve been told by Spriests who are much better at the game than me.
Like you said as well, the fact that we’re losing long DP on top of the Talbadar nerf itself I don’t see a scenario in which you’ll be able to consistently get off Mind Blasts with all 3 DoTs up to make that Legendary even close to viable.
We’ll see how the rest of the notes turn out, but for now I can close to guarantee we’ll be sticking with Sephuz.
Carllo thank you for the detailed replies : )
My last question is, Wowhead says for Sephuz you have to have Runecarving unlocked. I’m assuming this means I have to craft a different legendary first before I can make Sephuz?
That just means you need to have the runecarver physically unlocked to allow you to get recipes.
I haven’t done it in a few months so my memory could be fuzzy, but once you get on the quest that says you need a runecarver memory you should be able to get sephuz. It’s sold by the PvP vendor in Oribos and you’ll be able to get it with 1500 honor iirc. So to keep a long story short, no you don’t need to craft a different Legendary before Sephuz.
Twins is amazing if you play with mage/lock. I run sephuz whenever I play with melee a lot. I also think measured contemplation is good and worth the craft
Sephuz is hella boring but it’s one of your best. Twin is fun because of double PI, think it’s pretty much mandatory as SPlay.
I find all of Shadow Legendaries super underwhelming and boring. It’s probably why I hate Torghast so much. All that work for a boring legendary.
I play sephuz unless I am playing shadowplay, in that case I use twins
Over Measured Contemplation you think?
I’d probably refer to your judgements over mine, especially Stahp, but I figured Measured Contemplation is good for those comps because not only are you not being focused but also being able to top someone with one S-Mend cast is just amazing for caster cleaves like that that often play into Damp.
Assuming you guys like Double PI strictly for the fact that it heavily assists with your offense when playing with Mage/Lock ?
If your playing sp/lock and the enemy team doesnt have a purge, when you darksoul+pi the other team is pretty much dead
Duhh, lol idk why I didn’t think of that. I gotta test that out next queue sesh then. I just auto-switch to Measured Contemplation every time I’m playing Shadowplay because I feel like it really helps us survive.
Would you recommend Twins against teams that have a purge and Measured Contemplation with teams that do have one, or are you always taking Twins?
I always play twins because we tend to need damage more than defense, but I guess it depends on how your teams playing and what you need more.

I’ve seen people run the SMend one with Mages in tourneys, I’m working on that one next. I’ve heard it’s like an extra Void Shift if you’re not casting mend and letting it stack.
The play style it encourages though isn’t for me. It’s like you’re playing to not die and get into dampening, rather than playing to kill before. I also prefer melee as partners over casters in 3s.
Sephuz is your best option, mainly because none of the Shadow-specific legendaries are any good.
Yeah twins is great for mage to have an omega bust or farm back bust faster. Say that five times fast. The mend leggo has its place but I generally avoid trying to damp I always wanna win the game as quickly as possible. Measured contemplation is really fun in double dps 2s too
Shadow mend one is good, Lets you use shadow mend as another defensive for yourself or even for others to rotate.
Shadowmend legendary my friend!
I like grip leggo a lot, but its kind of a coin flip of how good it’ll be, but its really great for double dps 2s
i’ve gotten killed by painbreaker psalm more than once over the last couple weeks, it seems usable
