Spooky-ooky Quests of Azeroth

'Tis the Season! :ghost: :jack_o_lantern:

I found myself down memory lane while collecting candy from the various buckets around Azeroth and was reminiscing on a lot of old quests that I love.

Some personal favorites of mine are from Classic. Inadvertently helping the old Hermit of Duskwood rebuild Stitches as well as the building of the scepter to help vanquish Morbent Fel are big nostalgia bombs for me. Running like heck away from Morā€™Ladim always got me 'cause he would aggro across half the damn graveyard to punch your lights out!

Unfortunately, I donā€™t feel like these quests have as much ā€˜oomphā€™ as they used to in their Cataclysm revamps but Iā€™m glad there are versions of WoW that we can go back to revisit these!

What are you favorite spooky/scary/creepy quests or moments from WoW?

Happy Halloween!

That quest line with the little girl in Drustvar. You get the feeling something is off but by the end you know there is something seriously wrong with that kid. Another is the Stalvan Mistmantle quests in Classic Duskwood.

Last, itā€™s not a quest, but that damn first boss in Ara Kara creeps me the hell out, especially how it appears. Iā€™m not arachnophobic, but that one just gets to me.

Morbent Felā€¦ā€¦I CANNOT tell you how many times that elite snuck up on me and killed me back in the day. This was back before we had mods that warned you of specific mobs in the area :dracthyr_heart:

My favorite is also Classic Duskwood, with Stitches, and that one elite abomination that used to patrol the road. The quest where you find out the first time around that there was a secret lich controlling the undead in the area.

Also Desolace with those huge mysterious skeletons was also super creepy back in the day too.

Oh! And I used to love speculating about the who the robed figures on either side of the Dark Portal could have been!

I completely forgot about this! Drustvar is a great zone for lots of scary shenanigans, I really should go back and re-visit those quests.

Something else that came to mind in my candy bucket travels was Tirisfal Glades, I always found the quest chain of Agamand Hills super spooky, because going up there was such a nerve wracking experience with SO many mobs and not to mention the Crypt there.

I feel like another zone that kindā€™ve got lost in translation over the years is Silverpine. It looks cool still but something about the Sons of Arugal prowling the woods and those ominous gutteral howls coming out of Pyrewood Village really were something else. I canā€™t count the amount of times by poor little Undead Priestess got mangled by an elite Worgen trying to pick Mageroyal!

the lore for thaddeus from naxxramas legit is just gruesome. itā€™s made from the flesh of women and children. and the screams it madeā€¦ that thing still sometimes lurks in the murky edges of my bad dreams. look at the concept art for it if you want some spooky stuff

The scariest sound in WoW is by far;

Canā€™t tell me how many times those either stomped me or forced me to die by running into more danger to avoid their certain doom.

As for spooky questlines my favorite by far was Hecularā€™s Revenge. It was a hell of a long questline but worth it to see him eventually rise from the grave and attack the city. It was especially fun if you did this on a PvP server as you might time it with a player attack on Southshore and really smash the place up.

I foolishly always scoffed ā€˜HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE THAT THING!?ā€™

ā€¦ until one day I did not see that thing.

i genuinely thought it was like a proof-of-concept for some concept from psyche abt obliviousness lol. iā€™ve logged quite a few kills on it after tbc just for cathartic release.

You how many times that damn thing nearly gave me a heart attack?! For something so damn big and LOUD, it was really good at just pulling a Jason Vorhees on you and popping behind you :dracthyr_heart:

This coming Halloween, traumatize your fellow WoW veterans by whispering Hellfire Pennisula Fel Reaver :dracthyr_nod:

The Stalvan quest chain always creeped me out.

The Fel Reaver experience felt straight out of any monster/ scary movie - an off putting noise that gives you just enough recognition to know your death is near - and then your death comes.

It did make forming a party later to hunt one of them very cathartic.

No surprise: As soon as you kill the 3 major Nerubian Enemies she jumps on the middle platform! I was fortunate to be on the right platform rather than the central and left platforms and was able to catch her arrival(crawling from the Web to the central Platform and jumping onto it to await my attack) in a manner that made it look ridiculous.

Xishirra is even more ominous not to mention bigger and she is just a Quest NPC who hides on the caveā€™s roof in Azj-Kahet.

Ooof, the quests with Xishirra were so creepy! I feel like the quest text with poor Albert really illustrated some of the lesser explored horrors of being Undead. Him being able to hear and feel the spiders eating him but unable to truly die until he was just a gooey skull was horrifying! Seeing him progressively covered in spiders as the chain goes on really encompassed some of the dark humor of the Forsaken, but I couldnā€™t help but feel bad for him and his terrible fate.

Iā€™m not arachnophobic by any means but that whole quest-chain gave me the heebie jeebies!

I could never forget farming him forever to get the toy he drops. Loved that they added a tombstone for him in Revendreth!

Which reminds me, old school Scholomance had this really cool almost ā€œheart beatā€ sort of thing in the ambient sounds that I had totally forgotten about until I unlocked it in my semi-recent secret hunting excursion. Itā€™s really unnerving, Iā€™m sad they didnā€™t keep it!

I am arachnophobic but WoW spiders never really bothered me. Theyā€™re too cartoony.

Until that quest

Them coming down from the ceiling did it. The bastards really were just everywhere. Made me want to brush myself off just to be sure.

Lot of smaller details I probably missed because my attitude in that cave was;
