[SPOILERS] Thoughts on Nathanos in Shadowlands

So…

There’s no way this thread’s going south.

From recent spoilers, Tyrande gets the KB on Nathanos. If anyone’s read a single one of my posts, they might guess I’m happy with this, and I am.

However, Shadowlands is an expansion about the afterlife. It wouldn’t be crazy to assume we’re going to see more of him.

One of the biggest, most vocalized gripes about the Darkshore quests was that Tyrande was given this “power up”, but was still unable to land the killing blow on Nathanos. The “almost kill” on the #2 to the woman who ordered the genocide of Tyrande’s people was considered horribly insufficient.

So… Primarily directing my questions to the kaldorei fans out there, but obviously it’s the forums and anyone is free to chime in. So, we wanted Nathanos dead (we wanted Sylvanas dead, but Nathanos would have been a good second)… If he returns in the Shadowlands, will his death in the pre-patch sufficiently compensate for his escaping in Tides of Vengeance? Or, is that less of a “kill” and more of a “delay”?

If he comes back with a “just as planned” smirk on his face and does exactly what he was killed for then no, it was not compensation. It was all according to plan and Tyrande being allowed to kill him.

Only if he is stuck in the Maw with no way out. If he can come back, and he probably will, it would feel cheap.

Yeah, big agree here. He needs to DIE and stay dead. And not be saved, twirl his moustache or smirk at all. I want to hear screaming and serious regret for his addiction to Sylvanas. That felt totally cheap at Darkshore.

I could cares less, Tyrande still got the kill and the satisfaction of ending him and then we HOPEFULLY get to do it again <3

I’ll be happy if he ends up coming back, for the same reason I’d have been happy if we killed Kel’thuzad but had brought him back to join the Forsaken.

It’s not everyday blizzard makes a character that gives snark, is sassy, isn’t exactly loved by everyone for their actions etc. (Not all characters have these attributes but you get the point)

Kind of sick of blizzard making characters, people start too like they while others hate them, and then they kill the character off or give them a brief cameo later on

The alternative is that they’re given more of the spotlight and end up as unlikable shells of what they were. See: Anduin, Jaina, Thrall, Saurfang, etc

Nathanos and Gallywix are two of the most unique personalities in the entire game.

Most heroes are similar, most villains are as well with similar voices even.

I hope we get more personality from characters in SL.

Blizzard needs to learn moderation clearly, for some reason blizzard can’t help but go all in when it comes to just about any aspect.

“Hey the players really liked insert once beloved thing here, I bet they’d love it if they had it all. the. time”

Legion invading? DEMONs EVERYWHERE, OH NO DEMONS CAUSED HIM TO TURN BLAAAAH DEMONS AND FEL GREEEN!

Orcs invading? ORCS EVERYWHERE, OH NO ORCS CAUSED HIM TO TURN BLAAAAH ORCS AND DISHONOR WITH A HINT OF HONOR!

Rather opposite of that happened, given Kel’Thuzad joined up with Sylvanas to aid the Jailer in unmaking everything.

I do and I don’t on one hand I agree we need more personality in characters we can become attached too, yet on the other hand if we like a char and blizzard realizes it they’ll just come up with some way for said character (in this case) to leave shadowlands and join us even though they’ve probably been in Shadowlands for awhile compared to just recently having died.

I’d rather we not set a record of just not getting mad and storming the forums or twitter towards blizzard when they do something that can seem good now but, in hindsight that probably messes things up down the road.

Because if we bring one character who’s been dead for a long time back from shadowlands then…what stops blizzard from bringing more back? Then you have to deal with…okay will we ever have a credible threat when technically they can always come back like all these other characters, etc.

Essentially it be the same mistake they made regarding demons in the legion, whats the point of killing them if they can just comeback via the nether?

Even if it’s his permanent death, there would still have to happen a lot to make up for Teldrassil.

Killing Nathanos is merely making up for (some of) 8.1, but it’s not even close to “revenge” like the devs like to call those things or a resolution for Teldrassil. Sylvanas needs to go too, war criminals punished, night elf lands reclaimed, a new home etc…

Also, they could give Tyrande an actual cinematic too this time and not just one of those cheap ingame cutscenes.

Part of me is (A tiny sliver) blizzard pulls a fast one and KTZ along with Sylv end up being fine or something so we can get KTZ and Mr. Bigglesworth.

I just want a scene where as he dies hes says “im coming my queen” and he seems happy to be returning to Sylvanas. As his soul start to drift into the shadowlands, Tyrande catches it with the Nightwarriors power.

She pulls his soul close and Smirks “there will be no coming back this time.” then tears his soul in two causing him to scream in pain as he disappears forever.

I am really curious on how Sylvanas reacted to that one since Arthas invaded Quel’thalas with the intention to resurrect Kel’Thuzad. Plus their time together serving as the right (Kel’Thuzad) and left (Sylvanas) hands of Arthas, as per the Rise of the Lich King novel.

Why are people so obsessed with brutal deaths shown in game? It’s mainly with Sylvanas, but Nathanos clearly gets this too. The kill is already being given, they should at least give the character a shred of respect for their final scene.

You want Nathanos and Sylvanas dead. I get that. I want that too.

You want Night Elf lands back. I’ve read people suggesting pretty much all the pretty zones in Kalimdor with the Horde having just the wasteland parts. Why not go further? Claim more, the Horde isn’t going to stop you.

You want war criminals punished. Who? What would be satisfying? Would nameless figureheads be good enough or actual named characters? Would you want Lor’themar and Zekhan given life sentences locked away in the stockades?

You want a new home. I understand this and want this too, same for Forsaken.

As for the cinematic as long as it’s not Sylvanas again… but we all know it probably will.

The question that interests me most for you is, what do you want the Horde to be?

An extension of the Alliance? Remain a competing faction? Just be a collection of races living off the land while the Alliance saves the world?

I don’t think many (usually NE players) understand if all their demands are met where that would put the Horde as a faction long term.

I really, really want him to either come back or face redemption in Revendreth.

There were so many signs, so many little notes of hesitation and discomfort, that suggested he was beginning to think for himself with regards to Sylvanas. How he was coming to realize she was just using and abusing him. That he’s killed off without finishing that arc is frustrating. That, and we really need to keep what few Forsaken characters with history that we have left. The only relevant ones pre-Cata have become evil or been killed off. Three of the four prominent Forsaken characters in BFA died or left the Horde.

They literally had Women and children being burnt to death in a tree and city by the Horde. Varian getting exploded by Guldan. Garrosh getting charcoled by thrall.

Wow has always had violent deaths in Game why should they shy away from that because its an alliance character doing the killing.

Nathanos is too far gone at this point and cannot be saved as a character as he has been too much of Sylvanas’s lackey through everything. He needs to die completely and needs to be killed by the Tyrande.

Once again I feel the need to say, remember you need to not direct your anger/disdain/ bitterness at Sylvanas, Nathanos, saurfang, Horde etc. but at blizzard.

Killing or having these characters suffer won’t make you feel better since, we all know deep down said character wasn’t meant to go this path and sure as hell didn’t need to go down this path.

They didn’t ruin your characters home or zones, that was blizzard forcing this bad storyline through for some stupid shock value.
