Ignoring the stuff above, the blood elf dark skin options look AWFUL, worse than I could have imagined.

I think the darker ones look fine personally but the two lighter skin tones added for blood elves have an odd green tint? it sticks out pretty significantly

Here’s what I’m getting from all this…

If we look at dwarves, for example, Blizzard was originally inspired by Scottish culture, hence why they have only been white until now. Their appearance reflected that culture. Humans were inspired by Americans/Europeans, hence why they’ve had some more diverse customization compared to other humanoids. Elves were originally inspired by Tolkien elves, who are blonde w/fair skin. The cultures that are not white have typically been made into races like pandaren or trolls. That’s how it’s BEEN.

What I’m getting at is CURRENT WoW has removed race inspiration to give people more options. Does it make all that much sense? No, not really. But that’s not a goal of theirs anymore.

I can’t stress how bad it is. What I was talking about earlier with how they managed this–just taking the base ‘white’ skins and shifting the tone–makes it look so, so bad. That’s why the skin looks so, so dark. It doesn’t look like actual skin because it was given 0 care. Like, they don’t look like they have melanin or anything natural; they look well done and crispy.

I don’t think it’s the hugest deal how they did it. More customization is always good and it doesn’t have to be realistic since we can just handwave it with a wizard did it.

They are a magical race after all. I’m down for more customization options no matter how Blizzard manages it. And since it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s an odd hill to die on imo.

For the record. Had Mystfire been an elf in the tolkien universe she would have been exiled or imprisoned cause she was not a good person for 6000 years. (Robbery, murder, dating a warlock, the works) i always hated the holier than thou perfect elves of Tolkien. (Though I still love Tolkien’s works)
