[Spoilers] Shadowlands Alpha Thread

It’s my strong hope that number 1 is kept, as it’s exhausting for all who play Horde to be constantly evil. We have a peace loving Tauren race marketed to us, reformed orcs, etc… and we keep going bad. I’m sick of it, and so are most people I know.

Number 2 is what I hope changes. It’s time for the alliance and horde to coexist as we move onto new challenges. There might always be cold war esque tensions but a lot of folks are tired of the war.

cough The Alliance continuing down the path of moving towards aggression and internal conflict is already heavy and it’s not even SL’s release yet, thanks to voice dialogue from Shaw and Tyrande cough

I mean, who could have seen revanchism that will likely end up striking at the wrong groups for the goal they set out coming?

I’d love that but c’mon as long as the faction divide exists as a gameplay mechanic there are gonna be narrative contrivances to justify it. Gotta keep selling horde symbol bumper stickers to orc mains so we’re gonna have an “old hatreds” plot every 2 years or so until the end of time.

But anyway, a reconstituted Nation of Lordaeron would be different from a Nation of Forsaken, right? It’d theoretically be made up of… Lordaeronians, who are mostly undead, but not all. And led by a Menethil monarchy. Calia owes nothing to the Horde and is personal friends with the King of Stormwind… why would she join the Horde?

Blizzard could also easily be cheeky and do a a ‘retconn’ that would handle it all.

Just have retconned the retcons of every antagonizing thing the Alliance has done. Make it canon again that Varian tried building a rogue to Orgrimmar and the Vulpera death squads. Do it all, but edit it into the lore properly so it being ‘removed’ was actually the Alliance leadership spreading fake news to control the narrative and their populace.

tbh gimme more lok’tar ogar like the wrathgate cinematic with saurfang jr. cleaving down vrykul and i’d have way more orcish pride

if Vulpera death squads are canon they must be led by Nesingwary in a mad lust for furs

Totally not against some internal conflict in the Alliance, for what it’s worth. In fact I think it’d be cool to not have them always being reactive for once. I just don’t think it needs to spill over into open war. Cold War tensions are fun though.

I don’t think so. I think there’s been too much bad blood to ever reunite those guys. Maybe a postwar germany situation where Lordaeron is split in two, but I doubt living and dead Lordaeronians would ever live in the same political body once again.

Because she’s not doing it for the Horde.

She cares deeply for the Forsaken, for what they’ve been through. She may not have died straight away but she lost everything to the Scourge, and she feels a duty to her people, both to make up for her brother’s actions, and to give them a new future. Before the Storm makes this quite clear.

She has friends among the Alliance in Anduin and Jaina, this is true. Warchief Thrall was close friends with Jaina. Baine is close friends with Anduin. Both are still powerful Horde figures. I believe Calia can be so as well.

She’d be joining the Horde because that’s where the lost and “forsaken” undead people of Lordaeron, just like her, are. She wants to help them, and I think that’s what she plans to do. For her, I think, it wouldn’t be about the Horde as a political body so much as those she wants to help most.

Oops read the wrong update here is the update for Druids:

Thanks for all the feedback on Convoke the Spirits. It will have a further update in an upcoming build, focused on being oriented more around shapeshift forms, and including higher-value spells associated with each particular form.

Most importantly, the spell list is redesigned. It is no longer the same in every form.
–Spells included in every form: Moonfire, Wrath, Regrowth, Rejuvenation, Rake, Thrash
–Caster form only: Wild Growth, Swiftmend
–Cat form only: Ferocious Bite, Shred, Tiger’s Fury
–Bear form only: Mangle, Ironfur
–Moonkin form only: Starsurge, Starfall

When used in any given form, spells assocatied with that form’s role are strongly favored.
Starsurge, Starfall, and Ferocious Bite don’t cost resources. Swiftmend doesn’t remove a HoT. Ferocious Bite does maximum damage. Self-buffs that don’t stack (Tiger’s Fury, Starfall) won’t overwrite themselves.

A bit of discussion about this ability–one dilemma with it is that while it actually chooses abilities somewhat smartly, it can’t claim to do so perfectly smartly. So the tooltip doesn’t promise to always choose the optimal ability, but in reality it does much better than random chance. Some things that were true in prior iterations, and still true now:
–Spells that apply a DoT or HoT are favored on targets that don’t already have it, and generally won’t reapply to targets that do (some exception for Wild Growth).
–It won’t aggro new creatures that aren’t in combat
–It won’t break CC
–Heals will be more favored relative to other spells if there are lower-HP targets
–Thrash is used more often in Bear Form than in Cat Form

As always, let us know how it feels on alpha.

listen here all I know is we Alliance players will be very sad if they add a Lordaeron tabard and we’re not allowed to wear it

All transmog should be unlockable by all characters and no one can change my mind.

Since tabards have to be symmetrical maybe Calia should rename the kingdom Uordaeron so when the L looks like |_| it will make more sense

And the “u” could stand for undead it works on so many levels

How about neither side gets hit with Blizzards patented idiot bat?

How about Blizzard throws the faction war in the trash because they are completely incapable of writing one that doesnt &#*% over one or both sides to a degree that’s just not fun to play?

I don’t want the Alliance to suddenly be chaotic stupid anymore than I wanted the Horde to be.

Well, gotta keep in mind. This is a video game.

I like a good spy thriller as much as the next person, but big flashy battles and epic content does tend to draw eyes better.

The only thing I’d really want from it is to tie up all the loose ends to remove the likihood of another war lore wise. Sure, the Alliance getting to act aggressive and attack the Horde is great and all, but having them do so without suffering major consquences would basically just put the non-Orc&Forsaken Horde in the exact same shoes as the Alliance is currently in; constantly attacked, constantly denied justice and left to fester and told they’re wrong for wanting payback.

We’ve had a lot of flashy battles and epic content involving demons, tentacles, zombies, and assorted other third parties, so I don’t think we need the faction war to fill this position at all.

Oh I am confident we don’t either.

The issue is, spy thrillers tend to be a bit more niche in their appeal, and Cold War style things only really works if the the system of MAD is applied. Having great powers who hate each other but no threat of both being destroyed has a long history of war.

No more more full fledged faction wars please. A braindead rock could write a more engaging one than Blizzard

To be frank, I don’t think a Cold War thing – in the sense of both powers being overtly opposed to one another – is necessary either. It would be perfectly doable for the majority of the Alliance and Horde leaderships to project an attitude of mutual tolerance, while a couple of individual leaders on each side oppose the peace on the down-low, and form covert units/fund fringe groups to conduct officially unsanctioned skirmishes against the other side.

Storylines around this sort of dynamic may or may not be of particularly niche appeal, I can’t say, but the pitched battles against demons and zombies will still be there for broader enjoyment.

We don’t want it we have a dumb face. :stuck_out_tongue:

In all seriousness, imo? Invert the colours. That’s what my guild did for our tabard - as we’re trying to advocate a merger of the best aspects of old and new Lordaeron.

The old Lordaeron Kingdom? White background, blue “L” insignia, or a double headed eagle used because Blizz doesn’t want to make tabards that aren’t symmetrical :sob: . Forsaken tabard? Blue background, white “random face” insignia.

Give Alliance the old tabard. Give the Forsaken our inverted colours. Give us a white L on a blue background. Everyone’s happy. :stuck_out_tongue:

PvP can be crazy vigilantes. Otherwise the factions coexist in tentative peace. Done.

I’m curious where they go with Covenants and things in the future though. May give the opportunity to pick sides without rehashing the same old plot points.

The minor issue with that is if you have it happen like that, but there are no stakes in it, it loses interest. Like, if you basically just have say, the Worgen, do this constantly to kick the Forsaken while they are in their dramatically weakened state, but neither Calia or the big Red on the EK Sindorei don’t ensure consequences follow, it sort of just loses it’s teeth.

The other issue is that when the cat is out of the bag there, the Hawkish leaders would rightfully call for a harsh response which puts us back to square 1 with faction conflict.
