Datamined for the in-game cutscene that doesn’t play yet.
Sylvanas: I have troubling news. It seems there are traitors in our midst.
Sylvanas: Most of you need fear nothing.
Sylvanas: But Derek Proudmoore didn’t flee to Kul Tiras by himself. He had help. Didn’t he…
Sylvanas: … Zelling?
Zelling: Stop! … I returned Derek Proudmoore to his family.
Zelling: I could not stand by and permit such depravity to unfold.
Zelling: You raised him as a Forsaken. But you planned to deny him his free will. To violate his mind.
Sylvanas: Thank you for your honesty.
Baine: Banshee! Are we nothing more than pawns in your game? You betray the Horde!
Sylvanas: No. He did. And so did you.
Sylvanas: Take him.
Baine: Other will see you for what you are, Sylvanas. You will leave the Horde in ruins!
Sylvanas: There is no place for weakness in our ranks.
Sylvanas: Remember your loyalties.
Cutscene text: (Frightened Zelling stammers, panting) (Do we need his dying exertion too?)
Well, it’s the very propaganda they’ve use on new Forsaken ever since Sylvanas got her Val’kyr. Arguably newer Forsaken would be even more attached to the message of free will, as they’re brought back by people selling them the idea of free will in undeath, while the first generation Forsaken were really just spontaneously set free by the weakening of the Lich King without any idea as to how or why it happened.
I’m not trying to vindicate Eitrigg, like saurfang, he too has a lot of innocent blood on his hands. What I i’m saying is he did the WRONG thing for the RIGHT reason, while Sylvanas did the WRONG thing for the WRONG reason.
Eitrigg killed those Orcs because he found their constant lust for war and terrorizing of innocents disgraceful and unethical, and took it upon himself to teach them a harsh lesson. Sylvanas attacked Teldrassil, because she wanted to prevent the Alliance from having access to the azerite in Silithus so that she can continue to build and stockpile weapons to eventually attack the Alliance.
The motivations behind the two are vastly different.
Idk, why ask for a Forsaken protagonist if they’re already villains?
No, it’s decided by their “glorious” Banshee Queen who they fanatically worship with little to no choice of their own. It’s the writing alright… the fact that the Forsaken are literally written to constantly revere and worship Sylvanas with no personality other than being loyal sheep to be herded by her.
You do realize that contrary to popular belief, protagonist =/= hero right? It literally just means lead character. So villains can be protagonists.
And besides, Forsaken aren’t inherently evil anyway. The writers just like focusing more on the angry and bitter Forsaken like the Royal Apothecary Society and not so much on the ones that are just along for the ride and want to just live their lives.
Ok, well clearly no one here wants to be villains, so why would anyone ask for a “dark” Forsaken protagonist at this point? It’s like some people just enjoy the suffering, much like the Forsaken themselves.
You mean like Zelling who’s actually noble and just wants to protect his family. God forbid we get any more of those.
Draw and quarter that fool, and bring in another mindless, 1-dimensional, sheep for Sylvanas’s herd!
