Best example I can think of is that I’ve noticed that people often fall in love with fictional characters who are nothing like their real-life SOs. You enjoy reading about the dangerous, sexy vampire, but for day-to-day living, the mild-mannered guy (or gal) who’ll drive to the store in a snowstorm to get you cold medicine is much better.

Or take revenge: in fiction, it’s often intensely satisfying. In real life, it usually just makes things worse.

That kind of thing.
