If by burning down your world tree and smacking down your high priestess in 9.1 counts as surrender, then you may have it unconditionally.
To be fair, if the complaints are so uniform and consistent over a long period of time, then I think there’s a lot of validity to it. Sure, there might have been some bad posters who turned it into attacks on other players, but I don’t feel it’s fair to paint everybody under the same brush just because their issues align.
I know it might feel different, but 2020 wasn’t four years ago.
Seriously, why lie about this?
Apparently forgot that people can easily view your posting history if your profile is public.
Holy sh!t i read the full post, reading this stuff makes me realize how little i know about the game and how little i actually pay attention to the story.
Honestly, I just forgot. I don’t really keep a mental record of my own posting history. It doesn’t go much deeper than that.
I agree by and large. My issue isn’t that certain posters complain about the night elf story lately, more those posters who pretend the night elves have been somehow mistreated since Vanilla, will turn every conversation into a complaint about night elf treatment or an attack on night elf culture, so on and so forth.
I’m not accusing proven liar Seel of that kind of behavior (though the post that sparked this does lean that direction), but just putting it all out there.
Throw in a “wait, 2020 was only ONE YEAR?!?”
It’s very easy to relate. We’ll understand.
Proven liar? Alynsa, I haven’t really gotten invested in ages, I just legit forgot. There’s no need for that.
PROVEN LIAR!!!
I call bull.
Know why I call bull?
Because one look at your avatar tells me everything. Glowing red eyes? Clear sign of your allegiance. Clear sign of who you are, who you stand by, and who you stand with.
The proven liar siding with the Mawsworn is a proven liar, lying in spite of proven proof.
Exactly what I woiuld expect an IRL Mawsworn sympathizer to say.
…
…
Don’t take it seriously, lying liar full of proven lies.
… Impudent mortal. You think me defeated merely because you have seen through my disguise?! Your world is doomed, your goose is cooked! The transmogrification vendor BINDS us to our class armor restrictions, but the JAILER offers us a different path! THE ETHEREALS WILL DIE. The Mawg Shop will open, and we will all be free at last to choose what we want to wear from -all- classes and cosmetics! But you— You would stop my righteous work, you would doom us to being unable to wear all forms of goggles on all armor classes, and for that you must be destroyed.
The Crow transmogrification is especially beautiful. Red eyes, a bunch of black feathers.
If you were a Loyalist Sylvanas has different dialogue. If you hesitate to fight her she says ,“It’s wise of you to hesitate, but it won’t change anything.” And she says " don’t interfere. I know you are better than that." Not sure if she’s still on our side or still grooming us, either way she hasn’t abandoned her Loyalists. And it seems like our choice still matters.
Depending on how you mean validity I may disagree.
I can agree that a consistent amount of similar complaints may lend itself to being a somewhat accurate representation of events occurring.
That doesn’t mean there is a validity to complaining about the events themselves.
I think it’s a valid complaint that Night Elves have suffered enormous losses.
I don’t think it’s a valid complaint to say they’re currently somehow in a state worse than all other races, even though it’s a common complaint.
If you view the Night Elves as the Kaldorei Empire, then they’ve seen themselves go from world ruler to racial group that just lost their capital. That’s a huge nose dive.
- We’ve experienced the stories of Queen Azshara, Lady Vashj, Grand Magistrix Elisande, Lord Xavius, Fandral Staghelm, and others who were villains.
- We’ve seen them splinter as a race with the High Elves founding Quel’thalas, then being slaughtered and (mostly) renaming as Blood Elves.
- We’ve seen Cenarius - a demigod - felled by demon blood-infused Orcs.
- We even saw a Draenei Prophet suggest their deity - Elune - was similar to the naaru he had encountered!
- And of course, we saw them lose Teldrassil and other pieces of land.
The issue most people take with it is a combination of multiple parts:
- Many of these losses - while seen in-game - happen before World of Warcraft.
- This is a multiplayer game with multiple races and the concept of one race getting to be the most powerful is just ridiculous and patently insulting to everyone else.
- Other races may not have suffered as many setbacks over the last 10,000 years but they are undisputedly in a worse position than the Night Elves. If you control the entire world, you have nowhere to go but down, but when you control a single piece of land and lose that - you’ve got nothing.
- Night Elves (in general) are far more prominent in the storyline than basically any racial heroes other than Humans.
- Night Elves are more vocal about their complaints in comparison to pretty much every race. This partly has to do with the fact that Night Elves are a very popular race.
I don’t disagree with the validity of comments that say Night Elves have seen a lot of “bad stuff” related to their story. Night Elves have been central to most of the story, because their starting place was “world ruler.”
I disagree that their complaints that it’s unfair, writers hate them, and the like are valid. Night Elves shouldn’t be a superpower on their own - that’s catastrophically unfair. In terms of “fairness,” Night Elf heroes shouldn’t be so powerful that they can single-handedly hold off entire faction armies.
The Worgen and Forsaken both have it worse than the Night Elves. Even though they’re just an Allied Race, the Mag’har are literally the remnants of a people from a world that is dying. The Orcs were painted as monsters even without demon blood in WoD. The Orcish leader is a mopey guy with no powers who just tried beating people with a crossbow. The Night Elves by themselves have more powerful (and developed) heroes than the entire Horde combined at this point.
Until the Night Elves are on less than equal footing with the other races, I don’t see any reason to consider it valid to think the writers hate the Night Elves. Heck, let’s wait until they’re at least on equal footing to consider them possibly hated. And because of that, it’s really hard to stomach overpowering amounts of “woe is us” complaints regarding the Night Elves. The Forsaken are so depleted they are adopting newly revived Alliance characters to potentially lead them. It’s been a decade since the Worgen lost their home, and they’ve basically lost their entire identity to “human whateverness.” Night Elves still have it pretty good all things considered.
Oh, I don’t think the writers hate night elves. I’m sure it’s the opposite, in fact. I heard an anecdote that writers like to torture their favorite characters, because making drama for them is fun and you want them to either push through difficult moments or fail, depending on how you imagine they’ll end up. And conversely, if you don’t like a character or concept, you’re more likely to just…not write about them in favor of what you do like.
Literally noone complains about night elves in relation to their Highborne era. Or maybe a few cases, who are definitely not a majority.
Are you for real? Like, they actually have Benedictus … in the Maw (not sure what he did to justify his presence there exactly?) … but no Lil?
Yup. Dude is chained against a wall.
No Lilian as of right now.
That is, repairs were denied because our bowl is the largest and oldest? And we have to watch as pieces fall off from it and it becomes covered with dirt until it is equal in volume to other bowls? Right?
Hmm, it would be better if Sargaras pierced Teldrassil, it would not be so offensive.
Why is he even there? He died ages ago, so did a Dread Lord drag him into the Maw? And my god, for him to be there but not to have Lil get some MUCH NEEDED character development … it kinda feels like they’re primed to try to redeem the guy lol! After all, in Blizz’s current writing, anything even Alliance-adjacent needs to be whitewashed and purity tested. Just like how they validated Daelin completely throughout BfA, and you just know they will try to redeem Arthas in some way.
