Spell ranks are not updating on the toolbars when learning new ranks.
Yes they are supposed to says official Bradygames strategy guide.
If you haven’t already, you should post this to the bug forum with repeatable steps (I know it may seem obvious, but ambiguity is sometimes why bugs don’t get addressed).
I’ve been leveling a Warrior, Warlock, Rogue and my Paladin. My physical attacks like execute and the like auto update themselves. As does Sinister Strike on my rogue. However my spells on my Paladin need manually updated, as does my warlock. Maybe some confusion on which classes auto update?

I don’t recall newer ranks of spells updating the older ones on your bar automatically once trained in BC. I think that feature was added in later expansions. Not 100% sure though.
most likely because the new rank of those spells replace the old ranks in your spell book.
Mana spells do not automatically uprank.
Energy and Rage spells do.
