Spellblade Class

Such an iconic archetype, yet I hardly see it used in most games. Would love wow to incorporate the style of weaving between melee and ranged. Or maybe the class can be a mid-range caster spec that “throws” arcane conjured swords.

Really there are a couple spellsword type classes in other popular mmos at the moment, ffxiv’s red mage and gw2’s mesmer comes to mind. But I would really like to see an archetype like this in wow.

No, enhancement shaman does not fulfill that fantasy to me. I feel a spellblade or battlemage should be based in arcane magic.

A shame most of them were claimed by the Scourge during Arthas’ incursion on Quel’thalas and Dalaran.

That just sounds like DK with extra steps.

Dk is not arcane, doesn’t really fulfill the fantasy

Shaman? Paladin? Death Knights?

Typically the idea of a Spellblade is kind of an OP “Prestige” class, not something the player is able to do. Holy Swordsman come to mind whenever I think of Spellblade - characters deliberately made to be better than the player.

Having said all that, I think the blue spec for the Dragonsworn class should be a Mageblade tank. I’ve said before I like the idea of Dragonsworn specs inverting the norm, so Blue tanks, Bronze healers, Red melee DPS, Green ranged DPS.

Runic not just give one connection over the Arcane, but also Void, Fel, and Death as well.

Dk is still missing the “mage” part of typical spellblade fantasy. just cause they enchant their weapon doesn’t make them a spellblade

You sure? It’s a blade with a spell on it.

Third and Fourth generation Death Knights seems like a hybrid between the Original First Generation Death Knights and a Spellblade.

You have rogues, death knights and paladins you can play right now.

WoW is never going to have anything dramatically new. Get over it.

I’ve seen a suggestion for a Battlemage Class with Spellblade as one of it’s specs, based around the concept of a Spellbreaker/Warden; high mobility, teleporting around, etc…

I always thought they could give mages a fourth spec, make it a tank, give it glaives and shield, and call it Spellbreaker

Why does everyone think that just because a melee class can use magic, it’s a spellblade? I’m thinking it to be more of a mage off shoot that can conjure weapons not just a melee class with magic

:grey_question: :grey_question: :grey_question:

What are you talking about?

Because the gameplay niche is the same.

It’s definitely a hole in the class lineup, and none of the current classes/specs fill it properly for various reasons, primarily from a flavor standpoint. DK/Paladin are strongly “melee with a side of kinda-spells”, leaning too heavily on melee to fit and shamans have the whole spirit-hippy thing going on which isn’t even remotely close to a battlemage. Also, shamans are stuck with the worst transmog in the game.

See, someone gets it. Thank you. I believe spellblades to be a rather unique archetype not properly explored by blizzard. There’s a lot they could do with it

Tinker is the most likely new class, due to the mail + ranged weapon thing, we’re probably not going to get another melee class, if we get one.

Secondly: They can barely make the current classes work, despite having the blueprints for the best versions of the specs in the game already, so let’s see if they can fix that before adding more to the mix.

Another flatten world argument. Much like the assumption of two different political groups of Quel’thassion are biologically different from one and another; such as one of them maybe sporting alligator tails, reasoning with this poster may without a doubt be futile.

Let’s just say Mages were giving a domination force some immense trouble and well they had their answer to create something to counter them.

But than again Death Knights are far too Savage and Unintelligent to be consider spellblade, I could actually agree on this.

Tinker would be so “low-energy” though compared to Dragonsworn.

I feel like we’re due for a Dragon expansion and a Dragon-themed class pretty soon here.
