Spelladin shockadin?

I’ve seen this show up a couple times on the forums, but I don’t really know what this is and how it does dps? Are shockadin and spelladin the same ? Also what is the rotation that allows them to do better dps than a standard “ret” rotation ?

Sorry for the ignorance just see a lot of new theory crafting things popping up with the announcement of classic.

Shockadins are mostly 5 man dungeon “tanks”. Their entire thing is to take on like 5+ mobs and just AoE them down from their DoTs, their thorn-like abilities, etc. It isn’t like a real leveling spec or a even a real tank spec.

Oh. They are also “good” in PvP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkF8Xz_hnoc

No. Shockadins are Holy/Ret hybrids, usually 31/20. They’re Healers with Burst Damage.

Spelladin is a deep ret, spell power focused build on procs such as consumables, SoR and white hits.

It’s not the rotation that’s different from a traditions Attack Power Ret paladins but the Itemization it requires.

At least that is what is what I remember. I remember watching a vid or two about saying that they are kinda just AoE tanks in PvE

Doesn’t holy function differently than other spell schools too?

Yeah. There isn’t Holy Resistance.

Paladin tanks are AoE tanks, but that’s not the Shockadin build. Taking Holy Shock would give up Holy Shield and Blessing of Sanctuary, which are important to the thorns damage for threat and mitigation.

Shockadin is just a healer that can put out some burst in solo content or PvP when needed.

Spelladin is a Ret build that goes for spell damage gear instead of the normal AP/Crit then stacks a bunch of on hit effects that scale with spell damage and maximizes how fast they attack with Manual Crowd Pummeler and possibly Ironfoe.

Very interesting. Good to know the difference. I’ll look lore into this spelladin thing then. Sounds like it could be more fun than a standard AP build. Can you level as spelladin or no?

you are still subject to LEVEL based resistances for all schools of magic including Holy - ie: raid mobs and raid bosses (level 63) this cannot be avoided by any means and spell penetration doesn’t work either

this also applies as you level up as well since most mobs will be higher than you - for each level above you, mobs gain +5 or +8 resistance (still to be determined) to all schools of magic including holy which can result in partial resists to some of your damage attacks (Seal/Judgement of Command, Judgement of Righteousness, Exorcism, Holy Wrath, Holy Shock):

Seal of Righteousness is NOT subject to any resists (partial or full) because it was flagged by Blizzard to always land no matter what (along with a very select few other spells such as our debuff Judgements JotC, JoJ, JoL, JoW):

That being said some of our damage attacks still need to actually land first which requires +Spell Hit (Seal of Command however relied on +Melee Hit)

I can’t imagine it would work all that well while leveling given that gear with +spell damage tends to exist only on high level gear. Plus you wont have access to all the consumables used in the build until later, and you’ll be spending a lot of time needing to farm those.

For leveling I think it’ll be standard Retribution until you’re a high enough level to pull off the Prot Reckoning and later AoE build.

yea it won’t shine at all while levelling as there is hardly any +spell dmg gear as you level but once you hit level 50 and up, you can start assembling the pre raid BiS set and things will start to come around

You could’ve just said

and I would’ve been like “Oh yeah, that’s right.”

Brevity my friend, brevity.

not everyone understands how it works - aka ZOMG WHY IS MY HAMMER OF JUSTICE STUN BEING RESISTED - you need spell hit for that to actually land even if it is a Holy school based spell

whereas “Holy Resistance” is completely different and so is level resistance

so I touch on all of them - I wasn’t trying to crap on you with my response - merely offering anyone who reads this thread with information that’s all

I think this is basically it, i always considered them support dps because they’ll dps heal and buffs. It’s what my friend use to do and one of the reasons I’m going alliance is because of him lol.
