Has anyone found an answer to whether Blizzard will be releasing spell hit gems in Phase 1, or will we have to wait until Phase 3 to emulate when they were released originally, i.e. patch 2.1?
Nothing yet but given how they handled phase specific loot in classic its an educated assumption to assume they would do the same with TBC that they did with Vanilla.
That’s where I’m torn.
They released some items according to their patch/phase, but many other items were made available in Classic well before they were released in vanilla.
Also, this is one of those changes that was made apparently due to oversight. “Oops, we didn’t add these specific combos of stats to gems in heroic dungeons, so now here they are.” They added it to a list of of gems of similar quality that already existed, dropped by bosses that were already available.
This is notably different than spell haste gems, which were added to a vendor on the Isle of Quel’danas, meaning it specifically was not made available until then.
So the question is “Is spell hit a stat they specifically only added to gems in 2.1,” or was it just oversight?

Well, no. The content will be gated in phases.
This is not a change to an existing item; this is a new item that was added in 2.1, which would correspond with Phase 3. There’s plenty of stuff that would have been available in 2.4.3 that isn’t going to be available in Phase 1.
I’d think they’d keep spell hit gems. That is, release them at launch.
I hope so. However, I mean no offense when I say this, but I’m not really interested in what people think they’ll do.
I’m hoping someone has found some obscure interview with Blizzard giving a definitive answer. Seems the answer is no, sadly.
Doubt you’ll find any answer from anyone here. Devs don’t post on forums and wowhead handles most info, so keep tuned in there.
Not expecting them to answer, certainly not here. I’m just hoping someone knows something I don’t and can direct me to it, is all. /shrug
