Theres more speculation flaring up that what the Dev team is working on is the second iteration of wow - not a new game.
Before i get into what i think that means, i want to say:
I hope thats true
I hope they take some big risks
“Big” here meaning things like the Survival Hunter rework, creation of new factions, or whole racial aligments pivoting mid expansion. If thr Humans don’t live up to the Night Elfs expectations in 9.1, they should leave the Alliance in 9.2.
There is no doubt that there are too many hold overs from Vanilla WoW. E.g. Shaman used to be the antithesis to Paladin, but then the factions got all classe, and the DK was used as the Paladin foil.
The end result is that the Shaman was lost in the wilderness for many expansions. Very clearly a similar thing is going on with Shadow Priest, professions, the endless Torghast, Vaults, Delves revision, and guild perks. Even guilds themselves feel a relic of a time gone by.
Im excited for whats to come. I hope theres a complete restructuring of long standing, known problems, and im positive about the future, but dont revamp the world only to be timid. Rearranging deck chairs while the ship sinks is not the move. I wish the dev team the best with a strong suggestion that they swing for the fences. True to form, no one is reading the post.
Very likely similar to the Overwatch 2 makeover, I wager. Some variation of F2P with astronomical cosmetic (including housing) prices. Maybe they will simply “extend the free trial” alongside their new cosmetic “bundles.”
They’re talking about a very obviously AI written WoW 2.0 “leak from the dev team” that was posted on reddit last night.
About how after The Last Titan, WoW will enter maintenance mode with no new expansions, just refreshed content like Island Expeditions, Visions, etc. every few months for at least another decade.
Like no, that’s literally not how it works lmao. The same amount of dev time would be required for refreshes like that that is involved in new expansions, and it’s clear the AI they used don’t know that.
Then the description of the “WoW 2.0” was so random and needlessly complex I’m not even gonna try to regurgitate it.
It unlocks all race/class combos and gives you 3 talent points per level so people should have all talents unlocked bh max level. They’re going for a whole-class approach rather than the spec/role based approach.
It’s supposed to be a closed universe separate from the story of WoW as we know it unfolded, supposedly this time we are aware of every time we played into the enemy’s hand and this time we have to find alternative solutions to not let things play out the same.
Demon hunter added in its classic form which never made it to the game initially.
