[Speculation] Battle for Azeroth: The pre-rewritten story

They’d probably be mad at you for limiting yourself to those two races.

Cannibalism doesn’t discriminate.

Elfies are everywhere and easy prey for a quick snack though

Agreed but some people are friends, not food.

I had a thought about possible original plans for the faction war, based on how heavily the devs teased “Red Kalimdor and Blue Eastern Kingdoms” at Blizzcon 2017.

To add to what I said earlier–if I had to speculate, I’d guess that they envisioned a lot more battlefronts, with the war moving in different directions: almost-totally-red Kalimdor (except for Azuremyst Isle) and almost-totally-blue EK (except for Quel’thalas) in patch 8.2 or 8.3, and then counteroffensives leading to more or less the original territory borders by the end of the expansion.

That would tie in with this oddly specific and detailed exchange from the Blizzcon Q&A panel:

That’s interesting. Thanks for the additional info :smiley_cat:

This is more of a long-shot, but I also wonder if heritage armour sets are holdovers from warfronts that were cut.

Stromgarde essentially had human & orc sets, Darkshore had night elf & Forsaken.

The remaining datamined warfronts may have had the following:

  1. Azshara - gnome & goblin.
  2. The Barrens - tauren & dwarf.
  3. Silvermoon - blood elf & worgen.

That last one is what I’d be most unconvinced on, but the datamined text does sound like Greymane is saying it.
