Any particular reason why all the demons used as target dummy’s in mordum are male demons only? Is it because only male demons can survive better against being hit constantly?
It’s because, barring Eredar, demons usually come in single genders, and the bigger stockier ones that tend to act as bruisers - like Felguards or Mo’arg - tend to be male. Demons like Succubi and Shivarra are commonly more caster types, and can’t take a hit as well.
It’s not a gender thing. It’s just the types of demon that would make better punching bags.
What would happen if they did have those female demons as training dummies? If they die, just swap for new one? The demon population is not exactly endangered.
I don’t exactly know why gender even comes into play here whatsoever. Sure, they’d just swap out the demon if it ended up kicking it, regardless of whether or not it was male or female. They likely just pick males because felguards and mo’arg (which make better dummies) tend to be better for beating on, and they HAPPEN to be all male - or, more likely, the females of the species are either identical in model or just don’t have (or need) one of their own.
How do they know that the female demons such as succ and shivara can’t take a beating? What if they can take a beating better than their male counterparts aka the felguards and mo’arg? What’s your opinion as succ and shivara being training dummies, do you think they will die a lot and won’t be able to take hits/beating?
I think that it’s not even something to be factored in. Blizz doesn’t touch on it, and it really doesn’t matter in the long or short run.
Not ONCE did I look at an Illidari training dummy and think “why can’t I beat on a girl?”
Honestly, I would have thought they would want their training dummy’s to die, after all dh’s hate legion demons a lot, so after they die they could bring another one in and take the dead one’s place, so that had me thinking why they didn’t bother with any other variety of demons such as succubus/shivarra or heck even eredar red draenei demons, yes they are female, was just curious. Unless we know for a fact that female demons are just weaker and would instantly die from being hit, then I can understand that.
This is a weird thread that seems vaguely sexist for some reason, so I’m unsure why you made it. I assure you, Blizzard didn’t put any kind of thought into the target dummies aside from them being big demons.
How do you know they are male and not just really masculine female demons
Do we even know that demons have gender, as humans (and other sentient races of Azeroth) understand it?
So you’re telling me there is a possibility that the Mo’arg can be female, if both genders look the same/identical? Interesting lol
Sure. Doesn’t really matter tho.
They might not. Blizz never really touched on it. Dunno why they’d need to anyway.
We know iccubus do in fact exist, we players have just never seen one in person. Aranasi, introduced in Legion, also had two distinct sexes. Felstalkers are bred, and I’m pretty sure we’ve seen that they need male and female felstalkers to do so. Felbats also breed with at least two sexes.
I do recall in Rise of the Horde, Talgath an eredar considered sex disgusting and as did most demons, with him only siginflying out the sayaad demon race as the exception. Don’t know if it implies most demons don’t need it or they do but just don’t attain the same pleasure from it.
I can just see the articles that feminists and such would write if there was a succubus put in restraints for the purpose of using them as target practice, and all the people blaming wow for their ‘sudden’ SM addiction. They were smart not to do that.
I think it is sexist to have only males as training dummies. As if a male is better at being beaten. Or better at taking a beating.
Females of many species are often tasked with giving birth. Their bodies are designed to take a lot of pain.
I think the OP was pointing out the latent and deeply interwoven sexist nature of Video Game development.
Maybe it would be more offensive - to some - if a female is beaten. It could have been intentionally sensitive - or latent sexism. Hard to tell these days.
God, this thread is weird.
Cringe cringe cringe cringe.
Target dummies in general don’t seem to be about precision at all so I guess it’s irrelevant what species of demon they are. You’d think ideally DH’s would have all sorts of demons around to train against but the dummy is just a dps thing you don’t even have to aim at.
When the patriarchy and their notions of what gender can be a training dummy cringe - that is equality shining through!
Cursewords is here to voice his approval. This thread is lost.
It really is ridiculous that you’re giving this much thought to this, considering that it’s literally just the designer putting in demon models that have big hit boxes. All this stuff about the patriarchy and what not - you sound idiotic to be honest. I assure you, nobody at Blizzard thought “make sure you don’t make the girl demons the living punching bags, because girls are SISSIES!!” In fact, I’m fairly certain that getting to be living training dummies for demon hunters, possibly primarily male, to literally hack to death wouldn’t be a big win for women. It certainly doesn’t feel empowering as a guy, nor does it feel disempowering either.
Nobody with a brain should look at that and think of gender politics in any fashion. Good god man, this is a new low for you.
Fungi don’t have gender, so I reject the OP’s hypothesis.
