Spec for basics?

What spec helps the most with forcing you to learn the basics/fundamentals to succeed? main venth mw so looking to choose an alt to learn arenas on, tossing between arms and shadow but i don’t want to crutch on a spec being strong and then be -400 lower than where i was the previous season.

Would an underdog spec be best?

Just play the meta specs, don’t try to be fancy if you’re seriously trying to improve.

Otherwise play whatever you like lol

Warrior and Shadow are both consistently strong, at least viable every season. Mage and Rogues are also strong and have 3 different dps specs to choose from.

sub rogue or mage (playing with anything but a warlock)
both punish/reward you for playing well FOR THE MOST PART

there’s 3k warriors that just do stuff extremely randomly because when you play something like current warrior and nothing else you just learn over your lack of awareness and keep bad habits that your ego doesn’t let you correct because UR A 3K SL WARRIOR !!11!!

playing rogue mage even on a basic level pushes you to put more emphasis on clean goes, getting cross cc, recognizing kill windows, and teaches you when running/resetting is important
all of those things makes you better at any comp you end up playing later in life

You have to play better to make weak specs work. Healing probably best for learning arena tho

I’ll second this. Healing gives you the opportunity to actually play the game, where a DPS might never get the chance because no one will invite you to groups/app to your group because there’s always 5 other DPS in queue either with better gear, or better XP.

I would be back to just doing M+/raiding again if I hadn’t went with a healer last season.
