Just in case anyone was still wondering. Holinka confirmed on twitter that crimson soloist is spec based.

Gonna be a real sweaty fight between the three arcane mages
Good idea tho. Its cringe when people like Mud have ten warriors taking spots at the top end, even if this is just solo shuffle.
fascinating. can’t wait to see how this goes
glad they didn’t go with spec based rating all the way down
I suppose a fix to this may be that duplicate classes/specs get a title, but don’t eat up a slot. Or the title is account-wide. Imagine if alts are easy and somebody like Mehh has 12 Priest slots.
it’s impossible for me to believe they have the technology to make transmogs bind to account but still retain specifications for class(which they’ve had for tier sets for YEARS at this point) but had no technical approach to do the same for titles-and if they could do that for titles, then spending another 10 minutes per r1 slot manually handed out every season to look at the involved accounts and take the other 9 muds off the title list should not have been a neglected task
definitely just that they were not willing to make this change before, so i’m surprised to see them do it here
That implies blizzard made a mistake and the galaxy sized egos of the mediocre team doesnt allow that until they lose 3 million subs
i really hope this is something microsoft changes when they take over. even the profitable tech giants are bullheaded to an extent but blizzard has a knack i’ve never otherwise seen for refusing to make change in any direction even when something they’re doing is universally hated and visibly costing them scads of $
I’m not sure why people are so upset about it being spec based. This is just going to give us a lot more variety than meta picks. I’m all for it! Change arena to be the same thing so class representation is spread out.
No shot microsoft has any input on the game. I doubt they care
Outlaw cutoff: 3188
Guardian cutoff: 2445
the kind of person who gets into the driver’s seat at a billion dollar company is not often the kind of person to just leave $ on the table, is my hope
Do you think the gap is gonna be that big? Remember that if theres 200x the outlaws than guardians than guardian has a lot less spots (at least I hope blizz)
It would shift people from strictly playing meta comps to more variety, I don’t find a problem in that. If people want to be meta, make them work harder with better classes. That’s a good thing.
I just don’t think wow is the focus. They make wayyyyyy more on Candy Crush (lol) and OW, COD etc than they do WoW
Back in Cataclysm, I played Enhancement Shaman in arenas. No one else did because the class wasn’t that great, but it has always been a class I’ve wanted to play even if it was bad. There was a time in Cata where I was the highest rated Enhancement Shaman at 1903 rating. Just because I was playing a bad class/spec, I shouldn’t have qualified for any rewards unless I swapped to something meta?
jeffy b makes way more on amazonbasics cookware than suitcases but you better believe amazon is in the trenches killing independent suitcase manufacturers for the margin they can squeeze out
On ladder? No
I think it would be fine even if ladder worked this way BUT it would need to specified prior to the season and rating would have to be spec based ofc
at that time? no, absolutely not. when there’s no incentives like the intended spec-based reward in place to attract competition to that spec, being some random who plays it and self-awards the “top player of a worthless spec that has no competitive integrity” is not something it would make any sense to legitimize with official rewards. for reference on this, ask a pver you know about people who parse with survival.
i think it’s heavily implied that under spec-based cutoffs, there will never again be a 1903 rank 1 of any spec.
The point being, not having it spec based incentives more boring meta based arenas. I’m tired of having to play FOTM classes and specs to do anything.
When you have 3 times as many Outlaw Rogues and Fury Warrior Glads in a season than any other DPS spec, there is a major issue. Even if a class is within 5% of the performance numbers of another, players in this day and age will play the 5% better class. No one wants to play to have fun anymore, it’s all about playing the best spec, class, or comp to get high ratings. Clout culture in video games. Pathetic state of PvP and one of the major reasons it’s dying. Period.
