It’s enough of a WoW killer to be brought up again and again, and even produce a thread like this with 300+ replies, after all these years it’s been out. I don’t see anything on par for like wildstar (RIP), or GW2, or even ESO, but watching recent content creators discussions about Shadowlands, it’s been amazing to see just how often FF14 is constantly brought up.
Yes, this is exactly what I said.
As a bonus its fine, but not as a replacement of real content.
Just biding my time for Ashes of Creaton, the PSO2 big update, or Blue Protocol…
Yep. 5.3 hit and I was done two weeks ago. 5.31 is today, I might upgrade my weapon, but I am not a crafter so that Ishgard stuff idc about too much.
Maybe once the new Resistance Weapon grind opens up i’ll play it more, but by then SL will be out.
Right, and I wasn’t really trying to have a discussion of mission tables. More saying how someone jaded with FF14 could come to WoW and tell everyone how much they love mission tables and thinks it’s one of the best features in WoW and one of the things they love the most. You typically won’t have that kind of enthusiasm from someone that’s been playing WoW for a couple years. At best it’ll probably be like your feelings.
This is way off. FFXIV community was so friendly I was on guard thinking they were trying to scam me at all times.
It’s the only thing I truly miss about FFXIV.
I just came back to WoW from FFXIV. I really enjoy both games. I prefer the graphic style of FFXIV, but WoW has more content. I was a little hesitant to come back to WoW because, in the past, I’ve found just way too many people being… jerks. I’m happy to report that I haven’t had as much of an issue with the community this go around.
I will almost certainly go back to FFXIV at some point. Both games have pros and cons.
I hate mission tables…we have something similar in FFXIV…
Again, you’re acting like I’m in love with all of these things I’m mentioning. No, I’m comparing the two, and comparably WoW simply has a LOT more creative things in it. They’re willing to try, FFXIV’s devs are scared to.
I am an omni crafter/gatherer and have all classes leveled to max. The ishgard stuff flatlined for me after I got my title from fishing for hours on end in Diadem. I lost all drive.
Probably one of the biggest things WoW needs that it can take from 14:
-
Story-driven gameplay progression. It’s gotten WAY better since Legion, but it still seems to rely often on external means for storytelling. 14 does a great job of making all of the dungeons, trials, and raids relevant to the story. Even the dungeons feel important. WoW could learn a thing or two from them here.
-
Armor dyeing system. It’s time, WoW.
-
Housing system. It is also time, WoW.
-
Crafting system. This looks to be an improvement in SL, but we will see.
Combat wise, I feel WoW is a superior game. Character power progression, I also feel is superior.
You are understating things, like saying FF14 has less creative things and the FF14 devs are scared.
They have a casino, filled with tons of games, a constant onslaught of seasonal events with new transmog rather than asking people to farm old content. They created a class designed around completing solo content, as well as different deep dungeons. Where do you think the ideas of Torghast and the Legion Mage Tower came from? People talk about how poor professions are in WoW, while FF14 has professions on par with jobs including treasure hunts. FF14 has housing, with various things you can build, add, and also show off. People would kill for something like that unlike the Garrison they received. They have questlines that serve no other purpose than to give new transmog, pets, or mounts.
Like I said, you downplay the things in FF14 tremendously. If you dislike what they provide, fine, but to state their is a lack of creativity or creative events is just false.
played ff14 for 2 years and recently came back. its essentially tumblr the mmo too. tons of furries yelling awoo everywhere playing catboys and such. been kicked from novice network (the wow guide system thats coming) for saying innocuous things like retarded and laughing at the idea that the word trap is a slur.
why did i stick around for 2 years? because the story is really good, especially heavensward expansion, and i like the ability to switch to whatever class i want. i guess i finally had enough of the fagaloons stifling speech they dont like + shadowlands looks too interesting to me to give up.
What if we took the housing and transmog freedom, holiday events, cute emotes, and added them to wow?
Whats funny is at the end of the day, FFXIVs community is just as toxic as WoW’s, it always has been even from the beginning. Some people just didn’t want to accept that.
It’s just because wow’s community is openly toxic, while ff’s is more passive aggressively toxic
Oh yeah. Tons of passive aggressive people.
Yep, and I can find problems with every one of those things you posted, also.
Casino is not just grindy but incredibly shallow, on any given day you might find 1-2 people standing around playing bad mini-games to grind for okay prizes.
The crafting system completely hamstrings the rest of the ways the game could have to make money, making you feel like a second-class citizen if you don’t craft, and inflation is completely out of control. I’m not even going to go into “omni-crafters” and how the thing they tried to add to make monopolies less of a thing actually made it way worse.
Mage tower is way more enjoyable than the towers in FFXIV. Those feel awful and people only do them because the exp is good.
Treasure hunts are only good near right when the new maps release to get money from new outfits.
Housing is so absurdly expensive that unless you’re a crafter geared to actually make money good luck ever owning one, considering the “housing” is very limited.
FFXIV has a garrison system, my friend.
I could never play FF14 for more than a few minutes. The whole thing just felt so childish and simplistic to me. And the amount of unskippable blabbing and mini cutscenes every time you talk to an NPC is just ridiculous. WoW and FF14 are completely different games for different audiences, and people who constantly compare the two trying to say one will “kill” the other are grasping at straws.
Pretty much. FFXIV is has WoW’s stock, but boiled it down until the pot is almost empty, and what you’re left with is extremely refined, but won’t fill you up…
Yep, it’s a dude.
