There is a fine line imo between being woke and being progressive, progressive is hey lets keep politics and religion out of school (they wont ever do both that is why both sides are con artist and hypocrites) and woke is the post that states to remove succubus because its sexist, or removing spit emote, or billion dollar companies seeking to cater to LGBTQ even though the owners and employees are homophobes and sexual harassment offenders. That is the world we live in though!
Yes because there are people out there doing what they actually believe in. They’re developing technology, trying to get ahead of the curve.
But we can do stuff too to get better. It’s more productive than whining in Twitter and reeeeing when our favorite character doesn’t ascribe to our gender.
Because I have no other options. I can’t afford electric or hydrogen right now. When I can make the change I will.
Oh so because things are worse in other countries for women, there’s nothing left to fix for women in the west?
Nah, it’s both sides. The left just calls anyone that doesn’t agree with them uneducated, hick, trumptard etc…
It’s def both sides.
And progressives have their buzz words that they call anyone that doesn’t agree with them too. It’s all just noise. Just tune it all out and think for yourself. If you’re capable of that.
Not really, women have incredible power in the u.s and in Europe. Sure there is crime and abuses but nothing really overal that
is systemic.
Oh I didn’t mean to imply the left aren’t judgmental of the right. But when it comes to these slang words, it’s mostly a symptom of the right. I don’t really see a lot of the use of “trumptard” on MSM, or even sources that are heavily slanted toward liberalism (Slate?), but I can find near endless references to “woke” just on fox news, for example.
We already have words to describe others, such as uneducated, as you pointed out. We don’t need to make them up
Well pack it in girls!
Feminism is done because it’s worse for women in Afghanistan!
Here we go. Sexism doesn’t exist, this dude say so.
You’re never going to get rid of it lol. Just wishful thinking, but unlike other women elsewhere you have tools to fight it.
Yep, like protesting systemic sexism, voting out people who oppose gender equality, and bringing attention to bad business practices when they happen.
But you just called all that cowardly. What are they supposed to do, exactly?
Yea there is a difference between something existing and it being systemic. Calling something systemic when it isn’t is just a means for it to become a talking points narrative.
So are you implying that the right invented the term “woke”?
Also, when I read the above, I visibly cringed. You realize the left being hailed as the “smart people in politics” is just a selling point to lure in arrogant/self important people, right?
I mean, the way they use it, kinda. ‘Appropriated’ is a better word than ‘invented’ in this case.
Yeah but that’s always going to happen, this the plateau of equality based society. People are always going to call out bad business practices and perceived gender bias in the workplace BECAUSE you can.
You have rights, you have equality and you can speak out your mind when things bother you.
So yes feminism is essentially obselete in the west. Now go fight the good fight elsewhere, you won’t because that takes more courage.
I think they definitely adopted it. It’s absolutely a term coming out of the right. The second I read the word, or hear it, I know with absolute certainty that conservative talking points are about to follow.
Education is an important American value in general. I don’t know why you cringe. Most American’s want to send their kids to college.
I’m going to just make this addtional comment and leave. People always like to use the extreme examples on everything. My guess is nothing is as bad as these people would have you believe. Of course there are issues but there are people who have a vested interest on make things appear a lot worse than they actually are.
The fact that you say that on the forum for a gaming company that is at this exact moment embroiled in a scandal involving unequal treatment of women is an irony that I’m sure will be lost on you.
I can’t really continue this conversation with someone who has such a warped perception of reality, so I guess I’ll tap out here.
Why would anyone in their right mind want to go 100k in debt just to make 65-80k a year?
You can learn a trade and start making money in about a year without going into debt. There will always be a need for tradesmen but a liberal arts major? Not so much…
This is truly a question fit for GD.
I don’t often use the word “woke”, other than in the context of the discussion of that word.
Some people think “woke” is a reawakening of the old. Building and repairing what is there.
Others think “woke” is an aversion of what has been. Something frightening to destroy.
And I guess “Anti-Woke” is against what ever one thinks “woke” is
