Source: define "woke" "anti-woke"

Twitch chat is true language degeneracy.

I’ve used it exactly once, to get in the queue for a free Friendship Dragon toward the end of BfA. The stream of idiocy disgusted me so much I almost closed the window by reflex. Fortunately when the actual drawing came the host used big red letters and turned off chat, so I was able to leave it in my peripheral and mostly ignore it.

Thanks for the translation. Can I learn this new language on Babbel?

Yup, high horse.

Ephipany: I think that’s why there are New Words.

The old ones get diluted and lose meaning (get tired of hearing their parents say it)or get a unintentional meaning for the new generations. Hence New Words. (Starting to fell like Bill Mahr withn “New Rules.”)

From the little bit of Twitch chats I’ve seen, it seems like the people communicate with Pepe emotes.

Woke is only used as a pejorative now. Nobody actually identifies as such. Like most buzzwords and catchphrases it’s often used mindlessly by people with little actual understanding of its origins.

Remember all those white people, mainly young white women who have never faced real struggle (as most don’t if you are born in U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan or Australia)? They marched around yelling chants and not knowing why they are there, but they did it because everyone else was doing it? Remember how they posted BLM and black boxes all day every day on their social media? Now it’s a new year and nothing has changed, now they are all gone and aren’t trying to do anything because it’s not trendy?

Yeah, that’s virtue signaling. Pretending to care about a subject you really don’t for social gain. Virtually 99% of Twitter is this way (which is mostly bots).

For me, these words usually mean “ignore list.” Nobody says these things with good intentions.

That’s pretty much what I thought. As I stopped watching the news, and am not on social media except, ironically here - this is where I get most my news. Including the hurricanes, tornadoes, ect…

So seeing these terms recently bandied about and trying to get context out of sentence? Circles back to your answer. Thx

PS - I totally blame this forum for getting me to watch YouTube! Lol. However, it turns out there’s some good scientific and nature shows…so good thing ^5

With new technology like the internet has come the pitfall of radicalization, the internet is such a great place for information but it’s also a great place to affect someone’s ideas. Cancel culture became more prominent from Left Leaning figures, while from the right what we got is bashing any human rights movement or social movement calling it “woke” and “sjw”. It’s pretty unhealthy actually.

“Woke” to me is a trigger word, like “SJW” or “Communism”, among a few others.

When I hear it it triggers my skepticism big time. It makes me truly doubt the intent and the credibility of the person using those terms.

99% of the time, the person using them is making extreme examples that don’t exist in the real world or hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about.

I mean the word “communism” has been a blank label used for anything and everything progressive since like the 1950s and probably even before then. The word is meaningless now.

It’s because you don’t actually mean that you say. You do it because it’s trendy, that’s why you’re labeled these buzzwords.

Taliban are doing bad things to women:

Progressives: crickets

That’s an incredibly bad example.

We know the taliban is bad for women’s rights in Afghanistan. We also know there’s nothing we can realistically do about it.

But we can focus on our own country where we can actually make realistic change.

As someone in their 30’s I have no idea what a babbel is.

:+1:

I’ve always gotten the impression that a lot of folks at Blizzard were actually legit woke (dude, they’re headquartered in California), they’ve just been stifled by boomer management. With the boomers and Xers getting kicked out for their gross behavior, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the “true Blizzard” starting to shine through.

But of course, the cynics who want to take them down a peg say they’re only “woke” for “brownie points”.

It always reminds me of an argument about altruism. Some people say that others are only altruistic because it makes them feel good -and they want that feel-good feeling so they do good things. It’s like, who the heck cares what causes them to do good things if it causes them to act with the intent of enacting positive change.
