316 solves here, my buddy has 465 solves. We have 1 359 epic (shield) between us.
It honestly feels broken.
On top of that, the Archaeology spell book doesn’t even show all my rares. I have 13, it shows 6.

Archaeology was known not to be very good in OG Cata, this round won’t be any different. This is why most folks didn’t bother with it.

has anyone gotten a 359 after the hotfix? because i wouldn’t be surprised if they made it so that they couldn’t be obtainable until you learn the cata 525 arch
Yes, my buddy got the shield last night, 465 solves. Insane.

I too got a shield last night and a guildy got one the night before. I’m just glad they went with the buffed archeology fragment rates.

Much like archaeology in real life, you never know what you are going to find so it should be super rare to find rare items. If it was common to find rare items, then it wouldn’t be called a rare.
I wouldn’t stress about not getting the epics, it’s only 1-3% DPS, not something I’d pull my hair out trying to get.
Do you do archaelogy all day? Is this enjoyable?
i only do it when i’m working, but yeah i have wow open basically the entire day, its not particularly enjoyable but its not much worse than what i’d be doing otherwise, most of the time is spent on flight paths

RNG is RNG ultimately. Some people will get stuff faster, some people it’ll take longer. Personally I don’t know if archaeology is a great thing to farm just to get epics because the drop rates seem so low, but I guess right now people don’t have much else to do so why not, but it seems potentially like a waste of time.
I like archaeology for the mounts and stuff. I love the bug mount and that crawling claw pet, so I’ll probably farm it a bit to try to get that. If I get any epic gear then great, but if not it’s all good.
I enjoy it though. It’s not the most exciting thing to do but like doing it while in queue for other stuff or watching something on the other screen.
There’s also going to be a representation selection issue - most people who post will people who had extraordinarily good luck or bad luck, with - in theory - most people solving for epics between roughly 75-250 of each race.
But that downside tail is likely to be very long. I think Zrrk is right - if you’re doing it for the mount/rares it’s a decent timesink with a chance at an epic.
But if it’s your gearing strategy for raiding RNG will either be on your side or it won’t and it might make you pretty miserable.
