So I was running a dungeon with a few people, and I rolled need for a robe, a mage also rolled need, but I won the item. I’m a resto Shaman and the extra intellect would really help me with healing.
So my question is, am I gonna lose my character or account because of this?
No we can report you for anything unless u actualy broke the rules u didnt nothing will happen there all bluster more bark then bite.
Opposite to what the popular opinion believes, reports are investigated and looked into. If you did nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about.
I’m assuming this is in Classic? Seeing as you’re penalized in Retail for not using your preferred armor class it wouldn’t make too much sense to Need there.
Yeah it’s classic, meaning the best thing for my resto rn is cloth armor with intellect.
To be fair should stick to ur armor claass using the wrong armor is doing more harm then good.
If the option to hit need is available. You are fully entitled to hit need. It doesn’t truly matter why you hit need. All that the GMs are going to care about is if you were entitled to do that.
In Classic that’s not 100% true. In fact some BiS gear are different armor classes. Warriors sometimes equip Leather because the stat boosts are way more important than the armor if they’re going DPS.
That’s why I asked because it’s a totally different context. Not really actionable either way: If you can Need you can Need, but figured it was important to ask.
Exactly, the intellect mainly is found on cloth armor, I do have some decent intellect high leather armor as well, but I mainly just needed to know if I was going to get in trouble, I’ve never been reported for this before, he got so angry at me for needing it.
For the “Ninja Loot” issue you are fine. If you were being toxic and that’s what they reported. That may be a different issue.
Edit: Here comes the friendly old centaur to expand on the situation.
Not in classic cloth has some good stats.
If you have the option to roll need, Arianni, you are perfectly within your right to roll need. There are no rules against it, and it isn’t ninja looting. People seem to be applying that term to a very loose definition of “rolling on something I don’t think you should have”.
Indeed. If you otherwise violated our Code of Conduct by using inappropriate and toxic language, that can be reported.
You wouldn’t lose your character or account though, even if you were verified as violating chat policies the most that would happen is you would be temporarily silenced or suspended. The account would only be closed if you kept violating those policies over and over again.
Thank you, and no I wasn’t violating any policies, I even apologized to the mage for winning the item even though I didn’t have to.
Then You have nothing to worry about. People love to throw out that they are reporting you. Just remember to remain calm and polite. You don’t even need to respond
Never give anyone a legitimate reason to report you and you will not have any issues.
It would be ironic – and theoretically quite possible – for them to draw a penalty if their communications to you or the group about this violated ToS and the Social Contract and they wound up being actioned.
FWIW, here’s the official support article about “ninja looting”.
Ultimately, GMs won’t get involved in loot disputes unless there’s clear evidence of scam activity, like a master looter promising fair distribution but keeping loot for themselves. If there were no promises made or deals struck, like the mage paying you gold to not roll on the gear, there is no “ninja looting” in play and there’s nothing reportable or actionable.
Lol, I know the GMs do not have time scour entire conversations. But I admit I would get quite a few giggles out of seeing some people complaining that they reported someone for some silly reasons and get actioned instead.
If you’re able to roll on an item that you particapated for the roll on, no you won’t loose your character or account, nor would you be actioned for it.
How ever, you engage with any sort of inappropriate behaviour from winning your roll, then Blizzard can look at taking action towards that behaviour, usually in form of silences for first offenses, to suspensions for repeated offenses.
Unless they are playing wow vanilla classic then realm rep is not a big issue. Most groups should be cross realm.
If you can roll need your allowed to do so
I think I would honestly call it “ninja looting” if a warrior rolled need on an item that had intellect and spirit on it, when the healer or caster dps also needed on it and lost. It would almost be comparable if a mage or priest rolled on a strength/agility ring or neck piece over a class that can benefit from it much more.
Can you roll need? Yes, but should you? I think that’s the ultimate question here.
This isn’t what the OP is referring to though, in their case they are a resto shammy - and can use intellect.
Not exactly ninja looting if the character is allowed to roll need but certainly not in the spirit of the game when you consider one class can wear one type of armor only, while others can technically have 3 or 4 types available to them.
