Someone explain Spriests in 8.1

I don’t get it

They’re getting innerwill? What’s this? 15% damage reduction? Stacking twice or once?

But they nerfing full void tanking? from 20% to 15%?

But they’re getting more damage in void form, while being as tanky in void form as they’re are with edge of madness? So they’ll do more burst, while being just as tanky???

What’s stoping them from taking edge of madness and stacking it with inner will and having 30% damage reduction the entire game? lol

I predict a 33% reduced healing in pvp from spriests incoming after these “changes”

I am confused… Spriests seem pretty good at the moment, why’re they getting buffed???

Someone tell me, I don’t get these patch notes.

Edge of insanity is getting reworked into uselessness… so that’s what’s stopping them.

Spriests are losing tankiness in general

Lost edge of insanity which was 20% damage reduction

And shadowform reduction which is 10 %

Instead we get 1 stack of focused will so now it’s 15% damagereduction only after suffering a melee attack.

Basically, priests are getting buffs because their playstyle is anti fun atm. I don’t do much damage, and I also don’t take much.

This change makes it so I can finally use voidform in pvp again without just getting one shotted.

so spriests are going to take 5% more damage, but deal more in bursts?

All you need to know is that they will become more powerful than you could imagine.

Essentially, yes. Dispersion is getting a lower CD and it heals us now, like it should have done in the first place because it’s trash. We are also getting Greater Fade which will help.

Damage is getting buffed, seems like it might be a bit over the top though, so we’ll see. Hopefully it’s adjusted quickly if it is rather than later. As much as I love for Shadow to be strong, over the top isn’t fun for anyone.

How does the new Edge of Insanity work:

“while not in Voidform, reaching 90 Insanity reduces damage taken by 10%, and increases damage dealt by 10% for 15 sec”

Does this mean the damage reduction will only last 15sec once reaching 90 insanity? Or that the damage reduction is permenanent (while staying out of void form) and the increase damage dealt lasts 15sec.

“i predict spriest will be too tanky so i expect a 33% nerf to their healing”

real thinking hours going on rn. only stacks once for spriest.

first of all, let me put your WoW thugger down so everyone can see who I am responding to

2v2 0 current, 0 best, 0 achievement
3v3 0 current, 0 best, 0 achievement
5v5 0 current, 0 best, 0 achievement
RBGs 0 current, 0 achievement
HKs 0
Item level 20

Verdict: revolting backpedaling scrub

post on your main atleast, and if that’s your main then holy @#$( why am I even responding, you obviously have very little experience in arena

Generally speaking Spriests are great right now because of their off healing ability and utility combined with general ability to dampen the @!#$ out of teams.

Also, spriests are doing better than 75% of the other DPS specs in rated arena… I can provide a source if you want, but that’s an objective truth.

Now with the buff to their damage , I am guessing they’re going to be broken, or they’re going to need to be tuned. That’s what my prediction was about.

That thugger doesn’t sound accurate at all plus Felryn is wearing a 2200 legion tabard

i stopped playing my warlock because they messed that class up, now im not gonna be able to play my spriest… nice one blizzard

Nice, he got a legion tabard and has 0 cr, 0 glad titles, must know a lot about arena.

No one is denying spriest isn’t great, but you painfully know so little about the spec yet still want wild assumptions based on incorrect information.

Spriest is great, but it has glaring issues that makes it a complete pain to not only fight, but also play.

Instead of having a 20% permanent damage reduction (around 30% if you add in the physical only damage reduction from shadow form), they’ll instead have just 15% that only procs off of melee damage.

Spriests flop to double melee without the passive 20% (Edge of Insanity), but already do well against casters so this change keeps them viable against melee while also ensuring they’re not too tanky against casters.

Edge of Insanity is getting neutered so it’s going to be a non-issue and likely won’t be taken.

Now the damage buffs are a result of PVE since we’re kinda laughable atm and since that is leaking into PVP, the likeliness of us being overpowered is really high. This isn’t even including the azerite trait that makes Mind Sear tick for 40k that needs to be nerfed.

To sum up what 8.1’s goal is for spriest:
-It’s goal is to allow Shadow Priest to actively use their entire rotation (we can’t use Void Form spells atm) while toning down their passive tankiness.
-It’s also addressing the currently weak af Dispersion, making it more worthwhile (they removed the talent that makes it 95%) and making the tier 30 talent row more competitive.

As your concerns for our healing, it’ll really depend if it’s an issue or not based on what we’re fighting. The talent that drastically buffs our Vampiric Embrace will be directly competing with a “new” talent called Intangibility which reduces the CD of our Dispersion by 30s while also making it heal for 50% of our maximum HP over its duration.

actual tl;dr
spriest will only be a problem if Blizzard doesn’t do basic tuning. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

also, it’s pretty funny seeing a guy so full of himself over a 2400 glad title, but i guess you gotta be proud of something

Pretty sure Felryn is a 2.4+ SPriest. Either way, reducing Shadows healing won’t do anything, Shadow Mend is trash as it is. Not sure if that is what you were talking about though.

nahhh I’m not, only like max 2300 or so, can’t remember. I don’t play much, but I’ve been sitting 2100 for a month now while inflation has only gotten higher

could prob meme my way to 2400, but I’ve yet to abuse the spriest/rsham meta and opted for good ol’ fashion Rdruid or Hpal godcomp with a pug healer who’s never in voice :[

as for Shadow Mend, it’s probably the only balanced casted heal in the game since we oom so quickly which in return prevents us from using things like Fear, Purge, PW:Shield, Life Grip, etc…

My point being that your wowthugger search showed felryn with 0 rating and achievements and you commented as if there was no point in conversing with someone with zero arena experience while the person in question is wearing an item that can only be possible by being at least 2200 in legion.

2400 glad title??? I’m 2.8k multiclass multiglad you’re silly… look @ Feats of strength, if you want I can post on my warrior

also, Felryn has never been above 2.4k, he has 0 glad mounts, 2.2k highest achievement, duelist highest achievement

don’t insult someone then expect them not to also throw it right back at you.

Keep trying bud, one day you’ll get glad or be 2.4k, but this season you should’ve gotten it already

Only fire mages and rogues above Spriests at 2400+ for DPS specs…

Source Arenamate

weak throws tho, but dw i’m not one to care for 1 time know it all glads, especially bfa s1 glads

big yikes to that one, my dude
