Some Problems With The Forums

You have 2,000+ posts on the World of Warcraft forums.

Stones, glass houses.

And? After years of playing and occasionally posting during those years, that’s nothing.

Free thought is severely discouraged here. If you’re not part of the echo chamber, get ready to have threads deleted and vacations spent.

You think the WoW forums are filled with mostly positive feedback?

Is the implication here that if you dont like WoW they delete your posts and ban you?

Are you trying to be serious?

You think the WoW forums are filled with mostly positive feedback?

Nope, but I do think there are more white knights than people who actually want to give criticism. Any time someone posts negative criticism, the loud minority of white knights pile on with their personal attacks and trolling. And there’s already a lack of people giving criticism because most are either completely done with the game or unable to actually give it.

I feel that buddy

Could not agree more. The problem is, the forums are full of cowardly individuals.

You think there is a lack of people giving criticism? These forums are criticism 24/7. Non stop. Constantly.

Pretending that the forums dont offer enough criticism is just being silly.

A person ever creating a thread that is positive is a freaking unicorn. If you ever say anything positive about the game, you get name called in a derogatory fashion. Just like you literally did.

White knight. Shill. Employee burner. Whatever.

The one thing you can do on the forums and get non stop likes and people agreeing with you… is to post criticism. The more harsh criticism, the more exaggerated, the more people will agree.

You can actually have the negative people turn on you if you arent negative enough.

It’s insane to me that there are people who think these forums don’t allow/aren’t critical enough. Such a delusion/persecution complex.

pretty sure you can’t delete thread after you got replies. That delete is there for every post, not just for thread creators.

Nothing needs to be changed - you just need to learn how things work.

Reading this, makes me a bit sad for some of you…

If you flag something because you find it offensive, why go back? It’s offensive to you, flag it and forget it. Why would you even need to know it’s still up? Do you really need to have a vendetta to “show that person”?

If it’s still there, maybe it’s not offensive to the community as a whole, and that’s why the mods didn’t remove it. The mods are actively monitoring things, the 404s prove this. You flagging it again on an alt, well you pick the adjective.

The one change the retail forum needs, is for posts to expire and be deleted after a period of time. That rule is in place on the Classic forums, why isn’t it in place for Retail? This would serve to end the trolling necromancy, and eventually remove posts individuals find offensive. There is no downside.

Saying it’s purely about “vendetta” is quite ignorant of you when posts giving explicit details about self-harming, suicide and or seriously talking about killing someone should never be allowed to stay visible on the forums.

Read my entire post…

I did. If the mods see posts clearly in that form but allow it, yet people get silenced for masked swearing [and the offending post removed], do you not see anything wrong with that?

First, posts with

Are removed, as are bigoted, political, and many topics that are in no way WoW related. Those 404s I mentioned, we even jokingly post “NB4404” to troll the OP in them. It’s not instantaneous, but that is an unrealistic expectation.

We all know the rules here, and no, I don’t see a problem if someone gets a vacation for calling someone a Richard.

I also provided a solution, which you didn’t even comment on. So here’s a direct question to you.

Do you think Retail posts should be removed after 6 months of inactivity?

I could link you to one right now that I flagged months ago that is still up, but I think it’s considered a break of the CoC.

Clearly you don’t when you just said

And that’s a rulebreak as stated here in the Forum Code of Conduct:

https://i.ibb.co/Qbdt2rZ/Untitled.png

So did you know that you’re not allow to number threads with IBTL [In before the lock] or NB4 404? Evidently not. So no, you DON’T know the rules.

As for your suggestion I’m not going to be an echo chamber for you when you just made clear above that you’re just here to spout that you know things when you actually don’t and someone like that isn’t where I’ll be wasting my time today.

I’d rather waste it grinding in-game.

Thanks for that insightful answer to a direct question. Now if you don’t mind, put me on ignore.

That’s because that person is mad their thread was deleted on Reddit while they were unsubbed and couldn’t post it here. Which tells me that if it was deleted on Reddit… it would have been nuked here, too.

Because some of those comments are terrible things said against a person and they want to make sure that such things were taken care of. Not everyone is okay with having posts up that lie about them, demean them, insult them and other horrible things.

No, they do not actively monitor anything. They get a notification and eventually get around to looking at it when they have time. But they leave things that shouldn’t be left.

Not all of them are. So this is wrong.

Offensive bullying posts shouldn’t stick around for 6 months. This forum needs better moderation.

Care to offer a better, realistic solution?

And please consider having to hire a group of employees to actively monitor everything posted in real time here isn’t realistic. Would you do that job?

I just did: better moderation. Nothing needs “actively monitored.” They just need to split the current team up to have each one cover only one game, so that they know how these forums are.

I used to be a community manager and moderator for Dynamix/Sierra/Vivendi/Universal/Activision. So yes, I would. And I used to do it for free. I was a volunteer until they weren’t legally allowed to have those anymore.
