Some player creates a fresh 120 and dominates in Arena

:joy: Oh so now he didn’t get outplayed by 1800 peeps? Lol gota love your hilarious excuses.

He’s playing healer/dps. It’s the best twos combo out there. He struggled because gear matters. Something as small as 20ilvls was enough for an 1800 hero to overcome a massive skill disadvantage.

I guess if he’d actually won blizzcon he might not have lost a game until 2k against 430 ilvl people :joy:

ofc he could have been outplayed. It’s 2s, not 3s

Skill will always be a factor, but it’s hard to see because gear gap can make such a huge difference. When the gear gap narrows (which is easy to fix through PvE means), it’s much easier to see the difference skill makes.

This actually holds up. Warriors are quite hard to shut down because every time they bloodthirst, they break slow/root. WW have a lot of escapes, but they are finite. I know I have a heck of a time chasing down resto druids when they take the right talents. If they have peels from their team mates, it’s a damn nightmare to stay on top of them. In those games I don’t really do a lot of sustained damage… so I spend the game looking to create opportunities instead. I’m not the best ww, but good enough to find those opportunities and make them work for my team.

Anyway, don’t let pure damage make you decide that gear doesn’t matter. Skill obviously factored in for this game, ww is easy to stop when your team is a resto druid and a warrior.

pika is a 3.4k experienced player.

literally one of the best players in the entire world tho

fighting guys who have way less xp and way less knowledge of the game.

Should we make it decide that gear is all that matters?

Elaborate, please.

I quoted someone saying that in BGs dps is more important. Do you agree?

Lol this shows your arena experience :joy: I assure you the skills and class knowledge translate very well. I get identical ratings in both categories every season.

Should you be in this thread? The op posted an arena video… You told me to get lost one time because I’m an arena player posting in a bg post?

Tbf, many times I did say arenas were more gear dependent but also spec plays a big role. Which is why I constantly say rated rewards could be improved.

If they just tightened the scaling and nerfed stupid pve stuff faster that would be much better (or simply made pve procs not work in PvP).

Casual rewards system is complete garbage too though. They literally took our honor vendor. Gave it to pvers as benthic and added an interesting upgrade feature. You also get unlimited rerolls to try for more reforges where as conquest gear is 100% capped.

Every single PvP gearing system is garbage in comparison to it’s related pve one. That’s the true issue. Gear matters (yes skill is also important) but our gearing methods are terrible. Now that we have access to 430s it will be better (still no more shots at forges like benthic) but you have to play half a season before casuals even get that.

Benthic is just doing world quests. It’s not like you need a raid or group to do those. That benefits pvpers and pve’ers. Obviously they could add a pvp one, or give us those pearls through BGs.

It benefits pvers… World quests are the definition of player versus environment.

Yup they could have. Ages ago. Still haven’t. That’s why I’m annoyed. Same with residum for rated chest based on rating (and exclusive to your higher m+ or PvP rating so pvers don’t feel the need to PvP).

Seriously PvP gearing sucks. Some easy fixes they’ve just ignored.

And with warmode on some pvp. But I know you’re against that too. Honestly though, it’s so easy to gear especially if you have flying. Clear world quests in 20 minutes. Heck, horde queues can take half that time.

It’s still not PvP. You’re not getting any pearls for the PvP you do in warmode. You’re actually getting punished if you turn on warmode because you don’t get a whole ton extra pearls and risk getting farmed by a lfg raid.

It’s pve. Comical to say it benefits pvpers in any sense. It only benefits us if we stop pvping to go do pve.

It’s not bad to PvP gear now. Once again when we finally have 430. Pvers have been farming benthic forges for how long now.

/Sigh I should have left with jd.

Haven’t had the raids in warmode. Just the usual skirmishes. I’ve heard you say that before but it’s not that common. Anyway I’m off for now.

ive had many games where dps is what won

can you beat a 440 on a fresh 120?

Gear doesn’t matter in random bgs. On my dh when I was 400 ilvl I was struggling at 1600 but I could go into a random bg in that gear and was almost always top kills and damage and won most my games. I remember beating a dhs mirror comp in 2s that had 350k health when I had 290k.

But yes gear does matter when you’re trying to push pass 1800 even to a top player like pikaboo on an alt class(especially in bfa where essences and traits make a huge difference). For randoms you’re fine going in at 380 ilvl as long as you help your team in some way, I’ve won many games with useful undergears and lost multiple games with useless 435-440 ilvl players.

In a random BG, yea I would actually say so. Raw DPS tends to win games. Not always, but generally speaking there is a very strong correlation between the faction that has the highest damage on the boards, and the faction that wins.

This generally makes sense though, because in arenas (or even RBGs), you have teams and sub-teams working together. This gives you the opportunity for peels and CD cycling to mitigate damage. In a random BG, it’s just a bunch of people playing together. You still get some peels, and you still get some CD saves, but generally it’s really just about raw damage (and healing) that decides the game.

I’d say gear matters *more* in these scenarios. In RBGs and Arenas, gear difference is mitigated by matchmaking.

jugga says gear doesnt matter, but you need to be at least 380 to compete. how does that compute?

people can and do queue as fresh 120s, much to their teams dismay.

bgs are about objectives, but you get them with damage and healing
