They have a strat on wowhead here. I beat him with the water jet strategy up top in comments. I’ve encountered problems with others though.
Those strategies are with lvl 1 pet. I mean i want to beat him with lvl 25 pets. I never had a pet battle that cannot be beaten with lvl 25 pets. Now this Rotgut is trying to mock me.
There are 2 others that have positive comments lower that are not using level 1s.
Spring Rabbit – Flurry, Dodge, and Stampede
Swamp Croaker – Tongue Lash, Swarm of Flies, Bubble
Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar – Missle, Pig Out, Decoy
I agree. A lot of them require serious RNG to win and they are in desperate need of some tweaking
Gotta love the way they continue to cram pet battles down our throats, whether or not we have interest in them. Or time for them. Mandatory for a mount in bfa and now Cov Callings I see.
For Rotgut:
Rabbit S/S
Benax
Microbot XD
Start with dodge, stampede, flurry. Cast dodge on cooldown and stampede.
For Benax cast bubble, tongue lash, swarm of flies then tongue lash from then on.
Finish with Microbot XD casting Super Charge then Ion Cannon. (his res is better than the undeads).
This has always worked for me.
This… been doing this since they brought in pet battle scailing.
I see alot of people suggesting the use of level 1 pets and that would be fine to complete this pet battle for World Quest credit, but if you want the Family Exorcist achievement you have to use level 25 pets.
wait…are you telling me I didn’t have to ignore these pet battles ever since they made that change…whenever it was? sweet
I agree that they made shadowlands pet trainers/wq stupid. They for some stupid reason decided that they should get 2x attack speed and hp to the point that frequently beating teams with advantage against them.
Prior to shadowlands a single rabbit could usually beat a full team of undead. There’s a fight here 3 rabbits can’t even beat the undead team. That’s just broken. I did all pet battle stuff and went for achievements etc prior to shadowlands. I am not bothering in shadowlands because it’s just stupid right now
I used arachnoid skitterbot, baby stonehide, and benax and beat the leftovers pretty easily.
the level 1 counter teams are often the best possible strategy
at least for where your enemy’s team scales to your pets’ levels
I beat Rotgut with lvl1 Skitterbots. The one that gives me the most fits is Faryl (sp?) in Ardenweld. The second wasp trucked everything I threw at it.
There is a strategy out there - but you have to read it carefully (I say this after not doing so and having to go eat cookies to calm down). You need creatures of specific builds to win (like the speedy bunny).
Even then, there is an annoying amount of RNG (like the one guy in Ardenweald and the evil pony who stuns you every other round).

No pet battle is impossible to win. You might just have to go collect the right pets to beat the fight… But that doesn’t make it impossible
Wrong. I have beat them all. They are all winnable.
You can pretty find whatever you need on wowhead if it helps.
Use lvl 1 pets.
Rotgut vs. the Frogs
1st frog= regular bb frog, use tonguelash, healing wave, swarm of flies. keep swarm of flies active, use healing wave when health approaches about 600 or so. other than that, use tongue lash.
Second pet: River Frog, PS variety, use Tonguelash, Bubble, and Dive.
What needs to happen here is either Bubble or dive should be used to avoid the enemy’s Corpse Explosion. Yes, the enemy also has Curse of Doom, but your first pet will get you past the enemy’s first attempt on that, and there won’t be a second. Just make sure, best you can, to be underwater or in a bubble as the enemy hits 1/2 health.
3rd pet=regular plain Mud Jumper, BB variety. Use Tonguelash, Mudslide, and bubble.
Here, a change in the weather is needed. But first, Bubble up. Then, Mudslide. Then, Tongue Lash.
20 minutes ago I made 2 attempts to complete this Rotgut quest.
These 3 pets and the abilities listed are what I used on my second attempt. The successful one. The last pet is critical. The weather HAS to change, and the pet really should avoid some of that Mana Surge.
I didn’t look for best breeds, there are better, what I looked for was pets that are as common as pennies. Good luck.
Rotgut is pretty easy to defeat with 3 rabbits. Or you can battle with lv1 pets.
I had hard time with Stickyfingers and Faryl. Faryl’s pets hit like a truck, it’s ridiculous.
Oh, my. I missed that change. I need to pay more attention–and get back to battling!
