There is nothing about lack-of-flying that makes the world feel more “persistent”. As you point out, you have to land to do anything. Maybe the world would feel more populated if there was more to do on said ground.
You know what is a corner stone of MMORPG. Leveling and character progression… and scaling has done more to destroy character progression than flying ever did.
In PvE badge vendors offered gear that was roughly on par with normal gear…which in a world w/o LFR and M+ felt like you were “keeping up”. It was also commonly used even by raiders to patch weak spots while you waited for the item to drop/dkp/loot council/etc.
Also - acquiring 2 piece was quite easy with bosses like archavon, tol bard, etc. The catch-up was sort of built-in there, without completely negating raids and old-content via timeless isle/tanaan/lfr gear tokens.
In PvP the gear situation is even worse. The conquest system while slightly better than complete RNG is still garbage. It essentially assumes/works when you do 0 content outside of PvP.
Otherwise, you are stuck in a fixed order of items that you may or may not already gotten better from another source… essentially meaning you can go weeks at a time before an item you want/need … to the point where you likely get something better/equal to the item you get there with conquest anyways. It honestly sucks … I barely PvP and still noticed this side-effect.
high tier raiders are geared 380+
high tier mythic dungeoneers are geared 380+
high tier pvpers are geared 380+
how is the system not working?
other than low tier players being 370-380+…?
at this point in the expansion im 381 ilvl and waiting for them to increase the soft cap.
currently working on alts.
ill be 370+ a week after hitting 120
biggest issue right now is blizzard handing out gear to people that dont Deserve it
You nearly have to PvP 100% of your log in time to get a single piece comparatively to the log in and get 3-5 (repeatable) pieces in PvE.
PvP got shafted the hardest.
And it makes it harder to consider doing PvP even random BG’s when you know even with a win, you might not get single piece of gear. I haven’t touched PvP (exception was testing WM in Beta and Legion WQ) since they removed Honor/Conquest points and Vendors.

Because there’s no adequate catch-up mechanics to get to that gear level outside of the raids and dungeons themselves, don’t get me wrong, you could still have all the rewards in mythic dungeon like, you have to do the mythic+ dungeon to get the valor points, so that way you still have to do the content to gear up, but that would give me a reason to go do mythic.
in world of warcraft in a traditional rpg such as dungeons and dragons
the primary way of obtaining gear is through dungeons and raids.
what are you asking for exactly?
there are plenty of adequate catch up mechanics
like i said i can get to 370+ in a week .
please clarify how you would like to obtain gear?
side note if you dont do dungeons raids or pvp no offence but you dont need a high ilvl .
Every successful company attempts to produce a product(s) that will lead to further/future purchases and, as a result, more repeatable income (they are “for profit”, you know).
Are game developers any different?
This should be explicit in their business plan if they want to stay in business, but it is a little trickier for game developers, because their specific consumer has a warped view of history that leads to a belief that game developers should just do it for the love of the game, like they used to… And as much as it would thrill me to think that people just produce things for the love of it, the vast majority of folks, even if they thoroughly enjoy what they do, are doing it to produce an income.
Who doesn’t think to themselves when they come up with a brilliant idea, “I wonder if I could make money doing this?”
Yeah, game developers are no different. Expect it.
Pretty simple-- Re-add Valor/Justice points and vendors to help when you get PL to keep dropping the same piece you don’t need so that you can progress rather than being dependent on RNG luck.
Problem is, they would increase that time played metric if they continued with their original model. This current leaves no Incentive to keep farming for the same 3-5 pieces and pray your luck is good to the RNG god.
Player would log in and farm those currencies because they know at some point, there would be an end in sight.
As it stands: There isn’t. And I can say for me personally, I have spent less time in the game over this. I no longer find the PL RNG worth the value and play the slot machine to queue for any kind of group content.
If Blizzard wants to up my Time Played Metric, they better give me something better than, “You might get what you need if you are lucky…” Otherwise this is a F2P model with a monthly sub and I’ll treat it as such.
370 in a week? Sorry I need to call bull on that. Only way you could possibly do that is with extreme luck, which is not the norm. To many duplicate drops happen in this game.
