Some form of Sharding

the discussion ends with - no sharding beyond launch.

I advocate sharding, full time, anywhere it is needed. Let’s end on that note.

so you advocate for ruining classics economy, player interactions, etc?

Whatever are you talking about? Sharding will improve the game not hurt it.

There are world bosses that should never exist in multiple shards. This is another reason to have short-term sharding, the more people we can fit on the server at the start, the less likely Blizzard will need to merge servers down the road. Server merges would combine the total number of World boss kills from multiple servers into one.

I really want to see them pack as many players as possible into the Classic servers. I’ve been running around, doing lame world quests on BfA and with the large number of players in Warmode, it actually makes this boring content somewhat enjoyable.

sharding limits player interactions, it adds currency and resources to the game which are something that is supposed to be rare and valuable in vanilla.
also as galdor pointed out - one of the big things about vanilla was world bosses only having 1 per server up at a time. sharding destroys that.

most of us are grudgingly okay with sharding at launch.
what we want to prevent at this point is sharding being permanent.

You think you want sharding only in the beginning, but you really don’t.

#permshard

and you wonder why people think you are a troll.
go ahead though almighty one. what are the benefits of sharding long term?
consider this though.
two of the major points of vanilla are

  1. player interactions in the world
  2. community

go ahead and tell us how sharding helps those long term.

People who are stuck in queues or getting disconnected can’t participate in either of those things.

This is such an apparent benefit of sharding but their rebuttal is simply to “be tough, wait in line, be frustrated because classic = no pain no gain.”

There is just no way to debate some of these no-changers.

You realize its 2019 and amateurs with barely any funding can hold a single server stable with 15k right? If you are saying blizzard doesnt have the capability to do it, that’s just absolutely insane.

i could buy this argument at launch but not post launch. somehow i doubt we will have the 8 million people playing who played during vanilla.

also, private servers didn’t seem to have issues.

so. tell you what. you can have sharding when it doesn’t effect the economy, limit player interactions, and generate extra resources on a server.

seeing as that won’t happen.

no permanent sharding. you guys are already getting sharding at launch, be happy.

My position has always been that sharding should be used to keep zones stable to populations as they were in vanilla.

If blizzard plans the servers properly we’ll end up with servers with around that 2.5-3K population and sharding won’t even be necessary.

Difference being is that Clion was not trolling.

You are a funny little Gnocci. I swear, in every thread I have created you show up at some point to either say report and move on or you go on tilt. Man, you need to chill. Check that blood pressure.

edit: or go hang some drywall or something to get back to your zen state. We are having important sharding discussions here.

No he pretty blatantly trolled, and got actioned for it, and kept creating accounts to get around it.

or we can turn it off regardless. we were told they knew we didn’t want sharding and we plan to hold them to that.

Here’s the problem, classic might actually be more popular than people think. If we get to level 60 and suddenly servers have 2 or three times the population they had in vanilla there’s going to be issues.

if we see population starting to grow open new servers. it’s what they did in vanilla and they can do it again.
