Some form of Sharding

I’m pretty sure no one confuses it with sharing when people pop in and out of the world in front of your eyes, without any of you even moving, because you’re getting sharded.

A lot of people have been using sharding as a catch all term for phasing, multi tap nodes and legitimate sharding issues.

Anybody else picturing Whiskee reading this thread and just cackling like a mad scientist who’s plan worked? This troll thread is like a runaway train. Maybe we could get a pinned thread called Sharding Thunderdome and it’s just Ziryus, Matcauthon and the other heavy posters arguing about this, and all other sharding threads get deleted immediately.

I’m not a troll.

These whiskee threads bring the worst out of the forum. When will blizzard wise up and permaban that player?

Didn’t stop Clionz from making 10+ accounts to troll on. Although, it seems like the level 10 posting requirement did, ROFL.

Since when did healthy dialogue re: cutting edge issues like sharding bring the worst out in people? We are all learning about others’ opinions together.

Anyhow, the thread did end up serving a purpose after all. I hopefully helped a few individuals understand the difference between sharding and phasing, and corrected their false perceptions of “sharding betrayal” they thought they had experienced while attempting to mine ore.

True.

We also learned that perceptions have shifted since last November. More and more people are accepting of sharding, especially if it is just during the first few months of release.

I feel like this thread is more of a public service announcement than anything and I am happy that so many people shared their thoughts.

Are you even reading the responses? The overwhelming majority don’t want sharding.

Ah, but they are accepting of it at release my fine friend!

I’m seeing a lot of people in here that aren’t. Although your purpose here is to be a troll so I won’t really argue.

Really. What leads you to believe that?

Grudgingly accepting and not permanently and only with the knowledge that if will be removed. More like a i don’t want it but it’s probably going to be there so might as well prepare ourselves.

Really? How so when phasing is tied to quests, generally either storyline progress or WQ’s? How many BFA quests are there in the Barrens? How many BFA quests are there in Elwynn?

You still dodged and refused to actually answer the question–not that that surprises me, or anyone else, for that matter.

I’ll ask those questions again, although I have no doubt that once again you will simply reuse to answer them, instead preferring to spew garbage in the hopes that someone is foolish enough to believe that garbage.

Explain the difference between phasing and sharding.

Please enlighten us all as to what the conditions of phasing are.

Is phasing not tied to quest progression?

If a player has completed all of the quests in a given area and still experiences the same “nodes disappearing when getting close, then reappearing when backing up, rinse and repeat” issue, explain how that would be phasing.

Tell us all how phasing would affect a player in Elwynn, the Barrens, Westfall, Outlands, etc.

Tell us all how phasing would affect someone in combat with a rare world boss.

Accepting, like I said. And I am quoting you.

Sharding is done by continent? You know this how?

You either really have no clue what sharding is or how it works, or you are deliberately spouting untruths in order to obfuscate the damage that sharding does.

Let’s suppose you are correct, though. If sharding is done by continent, then how could Blizzard limit sharding to the ,as yet undefined, “starting areas” since each continent has “starting areas” and if sharding is done by continent then sharding those “starting areas” would shard the entire continent?

As for “arbitrary lines”, Blizzard uses “arbitrary lines” all the time. Zones are define by “arbitrary lines”. Areas within an individual zone are defined by “arbitrary lines”. CRZ boundaries are defined by “arbitrary lines”.

Let’s say that Blizzard wanted to shard only Northshire Abbey, Valley of Trials, Shadowglen, Deathknell, Red Cloud Mesa and Coldridge Valley. Would there not be borders (“arbitrary lines”) to those sharded areas that once crossed could move a player to a different shard?

As for the nodes I see appear and disappear, I see that in every zone. It is not limited to the newer expansion areas.

notice were not happy about it? that’s the difference.
and we aren’t accepting any form of permanence that you and others want.

They won’t which is why people need to be able to accurately identify the affects of phasing vs the affects of sharding and stop pretending that things caused by phasing are caused by sharding.
