Some classes don't need a mount?

My 25 hunter has the level 20 speed-up (Cheetah) and the 2 talent points that make it faster.

Yesterday I was running to South Barrens in Cheetah mode, when a mounted hunter passed me. He didn’t zoom past me – he was going a little faster than me. So I might not need a mount at 40. I’m close to that speed already at 20.

I think Druids get a similar speed at 20 with cat form. And Shamans with ghost wolf. Add to that Warlocks and Paladins, which get a free mount at 40, and 5 of the 9 classes don’t need to buy a 40 mount.

normal mount is not that great for certain classes… but epic mount is definitely needed, and you have to get the lower skill to get the one u need

At level 30, Druids get Travel Form which makes them go faster, too. I believe it’s a Talent Point to make the Cat Form move faster, though.

Level 40 Mounts are faster than Aspect of the Cheetah, talented or not, but if you are making a short run, Cheetah can be faster since it’s instant.

Cat form can be increaed by 2 talent points in Feline Swiftness to 30%, Travel Form is 40%.

Cheetah is 30% and can be increaed to 36% with two points in a talent whose name I forget.

Shaman’s Ghost Wolf wolf form I believe is 40%.

There’s a 3 second mount cast in classic so it pays off for long distances and not for short.

As a hunter shaman or druid you can definitely put it off and make do, but once you have the gold I don’t know why you wouldn’t get it. Especially on a PvP server you’re asking to get camped due to a lack of being able to escape.

Don’t forget the combo of Carrot on a Stick, Mithril Spurs and +riding enchant on gloves. Small bonuses but a dramatic difference with all three.

You should still buy your 40 mount when you can, but for hunters, shamans, and druids it isn’t as big of a deal if you don’t get it immediately. I waited until around 45 to get mine so I wouldn’t completely deplete my gold for the mount.

Nope but fighting for control of Blackrock Mountain and Dire Maul entrances is defintely fun world pvp that feel like it has a reason. If you roll into BRM and see 5 -10 guys waiting to kill you and you team up with the other people in General to wipe them out and get your raid or party into the instance it’s a good time.

I would not go so far as to say “definitely needed”. Unless you are chasing people in PVP, the world is only so big and everything is still the same distance from the FPs.

As a gold poor warrior, I will likely eventually afford my normal mount but wait for AV to grind out the wolf.

Warlocks and paladins s get a free mount at 40, druids and shamans can shape shift putting less pressure on them to get a mount, and much the same with hunters with aspect of the cheeta. Honorable mention to mages who spam blink making them about 20% faster walk / run over distances which is also quite good.

But an epic mount especially for PvP is totally mandatory for all classes. The aforementioned classes above (druid, shaman, hunter) are fine of they get their level 40 mount later on as they still have a decent means of mobility.

Epic mount is really only needed in PvP imo. You can get anywhere or do anything else PvE related without it. Guess it just depends what you prefer to do whether you “need” it or not. :slight_smile:

I agree with the other posts: the 40 mount is still worth getting when you can afford it. And the 60 mount is much, much better.

Of course, at level 60 getting gold is easier. Achoo! 3.5 gold…:grinning:

Not sure I get the purpose of the thread. No one needs a mount. It’s just nice to have.

Hunters should always run with Feral Kitties! The Fishes are Free!

Druids and Hunters share the same Lore, Nature! Hunters protect all the little critters and druids charm all the little critters.

That is true.

Why this thread? I’m an altoholic, so in Classic I play 9 classes, not 1 class. That means I was looking at 700 gold for my level 40 mounts. Now I’m looking at 400 instead. I just noticed this yesterday and decided to share it.
