Hey guys I am lookin to gear up a character and dabble in pvp on the side. Was just curious how difficult devostation evoker was in arena/solo shuffle and what comps are good with it? Is it in a decent enough spot to try it out? or should I try a diff class?
idk much about Devoker besides they pump randomly so i gotta CC them

Devastation is good but it’s on the difficult side to play and there are only a few good comps, some with even rarer specs. Unless you’re really in love with the spec and/or groove to the idea of rarely facing mirrors, you’ll probably be happier with another spec.
Melee in general is going to be easier to pick up, but it doesn’t hurt to dive into the deep end and figure things out.
If you’re new to PVP I would suggest making a DH, Warrior, or Ret Paladin until you get sort of a feel for it. Jumping into PVP for the first time as a short ranged wizard probably isn’t going to be the most fun for you, tbh.
I see. It sucks cus the 2 characters I was looking into possibly trying were evoker and shaman lol I don’t think I’d have an easy time with either of those tbh.
I could possibly try ret for solo shuffle how do they do in that?
Ret is a nice, simple melee that satisfies the burst damage profile you seem to be after. It’s also fairly durable and has bubble so it’s not so sensitive to misplay and is a good beginner spec.
That being said everything is going to be hard at first and it’s important to pick a spec you think you’ll stick with and learn. Simply playing the game, putting time in and enjoying it, is going to trump any advice or meta.
Both Devastation Evoker and Elemental Shaman, not Enhancement Shaman, are good specs and good in shuffle if you’re up for the challenge of learning to play caster in a melee dominated game mode.
Guides, videos, streams, WoWhead and leaderboards are your friends. That and thousands of games. It’s a journey, but a rewarding one if you stick with it. Good luck.
Ele sham arcane mage boomkin and 2/3 warlock specs are more dominant than almost all melees
Simply incorrect. You will face more melee specs than ranged specs from 0 CR to 2800 CR.

The power level of the ranged specs is moot. The point is that you’ll be a caster having to deal with melee in your face more often than not.
Popularity doesnt really = strength
wrong. Demo destro boomy arcane are better than almost all melee specs bar subrogue ww. I usually go 4-2 or 5-1 vs triple melee on my destro warlock. Fighting hunters on blades edge and ruins of lorderon is the only thing taht farms me.
They’re fine. It’s not that one thing is even better than others per se, I just think a 25 yard range wizard would be a really tough introduction to PVP when you’re going to be queuing into 6 billion people playing DH tunneling you. Lol Melee will just make things easier to pick up on while you learn the ropes.
I suggest you try it and tell us haha to see if I dare to do it too
