a lot of problems are involved here, the first thing is that rank system is garbo and you should admit it, second is not about skill is just about a mafia, third is that for a new character/ player the pvp is such a bad experience. And all of those bad things are going to be changed.
when exclusivity ends and you give way to equal conditions (speaking about stats we don’t care “THIS ITEM LOOKS EXCLUSIVE”) most of pvpers are not that good.
I don’t have to admit it. Overall I love the ranking system the the role playing aspect of competing in your factions military to rise in the ranks. The system is overall only a drag if you’re pushing rank 11-14 and all of the problems there would be fixed if they reduced or eliminated decay. The system is way more engaging than the honor point system they went with in tbc.

$100 says you never ranked in Classic 2019+ cuz if you did you’d know there is a grind and then it is gate kept by players. You want Rank 14, you have to pay people holding the rank to release it, or in other words pay to get into the club.
At one point I was doing 1 million just for Rank 11. I looked at another server, and Rank 14 wasn’t even 750k.
Eliminating decay wont fix brackets either. Need a different change
I’ve never seen anyone demanding money from people to hit rank 14 in all of classic.
And decay is the biggest pain from ranking. The fact that you can take a break for a week or more is what really makes it painful. I wanted to push rank 13 in classic and got stalled in rank 11 where I didn’t move up and went down for a few weeks. Called it quits at rank 12. Without decay I would have gone higher.
I am nervous that these potentially bad changes will seep into Era.
While I would not cry over any alternate versions of Q up, like a 3 players or less and even some sort of average gear level match making, If Blizzard touches the classes that is it for me and im out. Im not putting in the time to build another paladin just for blizzard to spoil all the fun
If they (blizzard) wanted to do something useful they could fix the plethora of game bugs in Era that still exists.
Bugs; lets start here; these have existed since Classic 2019 and exist because of the retail engine
1.Absorbs still prevent crits
2. Absorbs still factor armor making them more powerful than they should be on plate or mail by a lot.
3. Melee range on 2 hander is much further than sword and board / DW
2. the act of dodging appears to suppress auto attack (for the player character who is dodging the attacks)
4. leeway is way over tuned
5. break on damage CC such as blind / scatter do not always break on damage immediately.
6. Bug lists exist lets fix them, I could keep going for ages
He is correct about people holding brackets. Especially on the big servers. Decay wont matter if you are on those servers bc people will still hold brackets

No decay will lead every player to eventually hit 60k rp.
Its probably going to be solo queue rated BGs. Your weekly rating gives you points and you need the required rating to buy the gear. So HWL/GM gear will be waaaaaay harder to get than it is now. But you could do it without losing your job/partner/life.
I really dont think the changes are going to be that extreme.
My prediction is just the removal of rank decay, but with adjustments to the amount of rank points needed to rank up, so that getting to rank 14 as a bracket 1 player each week still takes the same amount of time timeline wise in weeks, but it makes it so that taking a break doesn’t make you lose progress.
They may make decay still be a thing, but only if you literally dont pvp at all, like as long as you get the minimum amount of HKs to be in the brackets you wont decay.
Such a change would preserve the iconic ranks and competitive weekly brackets, but it would remove the necessity to no-life marathon game past rank 10.
I do think a change to decay would make the most sense gameplay wise. But I have to wonder, would they reset the whole thing if it was just a change to decay?
Yeah, because if they remove decay they need to adjust the numbers of rank points needed per rank, because a big chunk of the points you gain each week under the current system are essentially deleted because of decay, which would lead to all sorts of wierdness if they tried to convert people’s current ranking progress over to the new values
Why would the adjusts the points you need? Seems like all you would need to do would be alter the decay value.
Because the reason it takes as long as it does to rank up even if you are in bracket 1 is because 20% of your TOTAL rank points are deleted each week, not just progress on your current rank. So past rank 10 the reason you have to get top bracket spots is because the top brackets are the only ones that reward more rank points than the total number of rank points you will lose weekly
If they want hitting rank 14 to still take roughly 12 weeks of bracket 1 placement they would need to massively increase how much rank points are needed per rank to offset the removal of decay
Ok well that’s just what ur assuming. I think it’s much more likely that they would just reduce the the effect of decay by let’s say 25%. Ppl would rank to 14 quicker, but I kinda think that’s part of what blizzard wants
Well, if the only thing they were gonna do is reduce the severity of decay they wouldn’t need to reset everyone’s progress.
Which is why i think they are going the route i described

I do like this idea. Only issue i have is still having people grinding the brackets up to 1.4mill honor haha. Which is insane. Maybe like a certain honor cap per week would be good on top of your idea? Its not really competitive though if you are just grinding out that insane time/botting. Competitive would be like what starsharded said and add a weekly solo que rating. I doubt they will add something like that though. People will complain that idea being a retail change
DO NOT TRUST BLIZZARD WITH CLASSIC ERA THEY WILL RUIN IT. They have proved this MULTIPLE TIMES over the past decade. It depresses the zug out of me… Really hoping these leaks arent true
