Seems like a no brainer to me, I can see the negatives for a few people but it would for sure bring a massive boost to the pretty dead cata pvp scene.

Would it? A lot of people who play Cata (at least that I’ve met through PVP in Cata Arenas) seem to also play Retail. While I think that there are definitely some benefits and conveniences about solo queue, I’d be skeptical that it would provide “a massive boost.”
It’s possible that it would, but I’d like to review numbers for PVP participation in Retail both prior to and after the release of Solo queues, if there’s some publicly available data that might help tell that story.
Personally, I’d be more interested in skirmishes, but I kind of feel like it’s a bit late to hop onto that now anyway.

this would require them to pay attention to Cata when it is clear they want to put their love into SoD instead

That being said I think they should get ride of 5’s and add solo shuffle instead
