why does it have to though. why does the game just have to be an “mmorpg” i dont care about the “spirit of the genre” if it makes the game better then add it. why give 2 craps about some arbitrary genre norms. nobody has anything to lose from this. it isnt like solo players are playing the game with you. youll see zero difference in the game i gurantee you. it wont even take more dev time. the solo content is there. it just needs to be implemented into the game better.
In that case you have to compare them on equal grounds: patch 8.0 had the neck capped at 30 iirc which you could achieve in a month, like a rank 4 legendary in 9.0.
You’re not making a valid comparison. The neck leveled with EVERYTHING YOU DID IN GAME. The legendary ONLY LEVELS WITH THE THIRTY MINUTES YOU SPEND IN TORGHAST.
The difference is important. In one case you are making slow progress with every action you take. In the other, nothing matters except the thirty minutes in torghast, so the rest of your time feels wasted and pointless.
(It also helps that the neck leveling did more than just stats… it alos gradually unlcoked powers on other gear. Which made the progression feel a bit better.)
I have studied this topic a lot my friend.
I may not have a perfect understanding, but I do have a solid grasp.
Either way, this is not a realistic ask, and not something that would improve the lives of the people asking for it, from what I have seen.
You’re not making a valid comparison either, you’re only looking at the positives of chasing progression for progression’s sake. Azerite had a lot of drawbacks and in fact could “set you back”. Let me explain: If you got a purple chest to replace your blue piece it wasn’t necessarily an upgrade, if your neck wasn’t high enough you wouldn’t use it until you unlocked the azerite powers and in a worst case scenario it didn’t have the azerite powers you needed and you were stuck with the blue chest.
Also, progression for the sake of progression is not a good thing; corruption and titanforging were theoretically infinite progression but we all hated it because we never knew when or if we would ever be done gearing our character. SL is very transparent in comparison.
Thank you for knowing what would improve my life. Holy crap you’re arrogant. Yes, having more solo content and a better path for solo progression would ABSOLUTELY 100% make my time with the game better.
Why? Because in stead of logging in and alt tabbing to go read twitter when it’s not m+ night, I’d actually be engaging with the game. And that would be an improvement over reading twitter.
I agree. It’s very difficult to compare the two completely.
Which is why that wasn’t my goal at all. My goal was simply to say that most solo players had more fun in BFA, even if just a little, because the system was better designed for them specifically.
SL is literally the worst solo experience this game has ever had. It’s too easy, the gear is largely meaningless, you don’t progress towards anything ever. There’s nothing to it. Nothing. At all. It’s literally the worst it could possibly be. That’s why there are so many threads complaining.
While other expansions haven’t been perfect, and they’ve all had flaws. Plenty of them. They’ve been slightly better than the current state of solo play.
no because as we all know not having good solo content just means you magically really love raids and will enjoy the game anyways.
You’re paying for a multiplayer experience, that’s the core of the game; solo content is not and never will be anything more than an afterthought.
You have to set realistic expectations.
The biggest issue with the concept of solo progression is how do you balance it?
Certain specs will always have a huge advantage over others, so how do you fix that balance issue without it throwing group content out of whack?
I’m not against solo players being able to progress their gear, but I can’t imagine Blizzard getting it right in a manner that it doesn’t throw the rest of the game out of whack.
This was largely the same argument people used against mythic+ content. “Raiding is what people are paying to do. That’s what the game is designed for. Dungeons should just be an afterthought.”
But people argued that “no, I would rather play in this other way” and Blizzard listened.
I’m going to keep making this case and hopefully Blizzard listens. Because there are more people than you realize who engage in this game without wanting large groups. And with how bad solo content is this expansion… Blizzard’s revenue will see it.
This is a valid question. (thank you, I’ve been getting exhausted dealing with the ‘it shouldn’t happen because I’m selfish and want the game to continue to just be about what I like’ people. So seriously, thank you for asking a valid question :))
I don’t honestly know. But I mean, it’s not entirely a new issue. We already have massive balance issues where people feel like they can’t find groups because their class isn’t balanced. So if we’ve managed to find a way to make things work for that, then I see it as within reason to assume Blizzard can’t do it for this.
It doesn’t have to be perfect afterall… as long as all classes can do the content, it doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect.
The game constantly evolves and there is nothing to say it will not evolve in solo gameplay as well. Ask Blizzard what end game is back in TBC and they would tell you Raids and only Raids. Ask Blizzard 10 years later and it is M+, PvP, and Raids. Ask them 7 years from now and it might be something else. It is good to discuss other ideas besides what has been accepted as mainstream. Will they all happen? Of course not, but it does not hurt to discuss them.
i can see where your coming from but realistically it wouldnt have to be nearly as bad as it would need to be in group content for it to become a problem since you arent dealing with other players. diablo 2 had some overpowered builds. didnt stop be from doing wacky garbage and doing just fine.
BFA had a lot of ways to progress as a solo player, and it was genuinely awful because group players had to do it to stay current as well.
this has been a problem in all gamemodes. in this case its less bad then something like bis pvp gear coming from raids because theres no barrier to entry. my solution is to have gear set to certain playstyles to where its less effective. not useless but less effective. your mythic raid gear is about as good as normal raid gear if you into a BG
I don’t really need progression. I just like having some fun solo content to screw around with. It doesn’t always need to be on the cutting edge. If my hand ever heals I want to try doing more Torghast since it looked fun with warlock.
Ultimately, an old idea is the solution, but Blizzard has an allergy to embracing old solutions for some reason.
Using valor to add ilvls to gear, having a weekly cap, and letting you get that valor in multiple ways solves a lot of problems.
I hope your hand heals. Good luck.
Having valor without the achievements unlocks (to 220) would be good enough for everyone. If you could use it on any gear. And it would be inclusive to all playstyles if valor came from all activities. The way they are tacking it onto only mythic plus seems to me like it’s just to get people interested in MDI.
It would give everyone a reason to stay subbed until 9.1 Right now there isn’t much reason to stay.
I mean, the valor thing was meant to be a solution specifically for a problem m+ players were complaining about. So I get it. And I’m glad it’s getting implemented for them.
I just hope that soon they look at us for a targeted solution to our problem.
We wanted to bring valor back. And before we used to get it from queueing into a daily heroic in group finder. The fact that it’s now mostly mythic only (locking upgrades by achievements) is not very inclusive. Which defeats the point of bringing it back. It’s basically blizzard corrupting a wish. Which they always seem to do for some reason.
It was nice in wotlk and cata just to do heroics casually everyday on all alts and work toward valor gear… In BFA visions was a nice solo option. Right now the only casual rewards is anima. And that too gets rather old as alts have to farm the same expensive upgrades anyway… and farm x extraneous amount before getting good stuff. Along with timegated souls rewards.
