Solo Progression Makes Sense

Why play this game if you hate it that much? Those “arbitrary genre norms” are the reason people flocked to this game and made it so successful. Entire systems have been developed over the years with group play in mind. The game already supports vastly different interests by supporting Raids, M+ and PvP for gear progression. Solo play is necessary and welcome at times but it should never replace the need to group at endgame.

Who knows? Personally I doubt that will ever happen, there are much better single player experiences out there that are not tied to a subscription.

But… what was good for people 16 years ago isn’t necessarily what’s good for them now.

Things change over time. Priorities change. And it’d be nice if the game could change with the times.

ahh yes ill go play the single player games that play like world of warcraft. just gonna do my world quests in witcher 3. sure do love that new patch in skyrim. sure do love the leveling in dragon age. solo players exist for a good reason. because wow isnt just a single player game with multiplayer tacked. its a game with a lot of good that alot of people play for alot of reasons and i think its time blizzard realizes this.

First, how is a 3 man group less scary than 5? Seems the big issue you have is that your wife quit. Perhaps she just doesn’t like the game. Stands to reason, if she did, she would play. Aside from crosswords and the like, how many games, even children’s games, are played solo? And 2 ppl can q arena, get gear, progress. I’m just not really seeing the difference between what’s available and the challenging activities you are requesting.

Agreed. They also exist because sometimes people want to play a game alone, but not feel like they’re the only person around. Ya know, be able to chat with friends while playing alone. Run into random people while playing alone. Be surrounded by people without having to directly work with those people.

I mean, the challenge activities I’m requesting are solo. And I’m requesting them as much for me as for her. My biggest issue is that in the time between m+ nights(which are only twice a week currently) I have nothing to do. So I’m basically paying a subscription fee for ~3 hours a week of play… and some odd time logged in while alt tabbed doing other stuff.

That’s my MAIN issue. My wife not being interested in a game like this because there’s nothing to do solo is a secondary issue, definitely. But I’m not really about to litigate the details of what my wife would prefer with a stranger on the WoW forums except to say that it would be much easier for me to convince her to play with solo or 2-3 person group content as a viable option than it is when 5-man, time-sensitive content is the smallest we can faesibly do.

personally i wont stop complaining about this until blizzard realises theres money to be made in this or some other company finally capitalizes on this obvious idea. i think its quite funny that the game is called the WORLD of warcraft. but apparently the only content that really involves the WORLD was a complete afterthought that all of us should stop asking to be expanded.

The game has changed with the times. You don’t have to stand in Stormwind and shout for an hour to find a group. You don’t have to join a guild. You don’t even have to talk to people if you don’t want to. The only thing that has stayed the same is that group content rewards outpace other sources. The game modes that you engage with are designed with that principle in mind. If you turn this on its head, you end up with a different game. There is another game in the Blizzard library like that. It’s called Diablo.

Wow is good because you can play solo at times. And progress (not in the patch). And have people to talk to that like the game. You see in the world all the time. You can choose to interact with them, and do group content. But locking all progression behind group content is bad.

I think this is why Streamers that stream solo playing games is nice. Because they enjoy the solo experience with people who love the game and can choose to interact for example. Not everyone wants to engage in group stuff. But it’s nice to be in a world full of people who like the same game as you.

Which they’re adding MMO elements to. So if they’re adding MMO elements to Diablo, surely they can add some Diablo elements to WoW. Seems fair. Right?

2-3 people you say? as in arenas, like i mentioned…? I don’t see what the difficulty is in playing a game in a competitive manner, as that is kinda the nature of the beast.

the only similarity is that you have keybound spells and theres loot. i want a game like diablo that also isnt a complete lootfest and actually is something vaguely resembling an actual semi immersive game. to be clear diablo 2 is one of my favorite games ever made. theres plenty of games that have elements similar to wow. like amalur and diablo. but none have captured the appeal of wow.

There is literally no way you could EVER convince my wife to be interested in PVP. Ever. Regardless of circumstances. Ever. Zero chance.

And the same goes for most pve players. Most people who are purely interested in pve do not want pvp. So offering pvp solutions to problems of pve players is insulting at best and trolling at worst.

So change the very fundamentals of a game to suit? Life is much easier if you simply seek out something that you enjoy as is. Tomorrow is never guaranteed.

its not that fundamental. like i said many times before. i dont neccesarily want new content. the contents there. i just want it to be taken seriously as a playstyle in and of itself and not a crappy side game.

But it’s not asking for the fundamentals to change. Nobody is asking for anything fundamental to change. The fundamentals of the game allow you to solo for your entire journey to max level. Then suddenly once you hit max level that goes away? That seems like a pretty bad system, to me.

But you aren’t a pve player if you don’t engage in pve…you stated you do a few mythics, but many who are consistenty asking for a solo path partake in no pve activities…

freakin battle pets has a more fleshed out endgame.

Then by all means, do what you enjoy! Pet battles work for you, great. If you hate wow, why be miserable?

I long for the days of epic progression and immersion through Northrend and Pandaria, but you are simply not going to get that in a mobile app.
