Imagine spending gold on drops you EARNED by killing bosses.
I mean seriously, that is the most try hard, special needs idea I’ve ever seen in my life.
Everyone I know left DKP behind in 2007/8. Much less spending real in game gold.
I guess greedy guild/raid leaders would love it as it fills their pockets with gold.

The thing that blows my mind about these diehard GDKP forum mutants is that they really seem to think Blizzard is intentionally hurting their business with the GDKP ban which is some galaxy-brain nonsense. Blizzard is much more of a greedy money-grubbing company these days and they wouldn’t ban GDKP if they thought it was hurting their bottom line at all. They clearly have access to a bunch of data that shows the ban is at an absolute minimum a net-positive. These guys love to point to SOD’s population decline over the past year as “proof” of their claims while conveniently ignoring the laundry-list of other reasons of why that happened, its just comically disingenuous.
I’m willing to bet one of the reasons why it was banned that nobody ever talks about is that its generally toxic to new and more casual minded players and if you’re not gaining enough new players your game eventually dies. They don’t want to keep investing in a game that’s mostly aging 40 year olds high on a never-ending nostalgia trip from their childhoods.
GDKP has no place in game - To all the Elrons
- It’s a fantasy to pretend you are doing esports but in reality you are pressing 1-2 keys on your keyboard over and over for 1hour.
- You are embroiled in RMT and potentially money laundering/tax evasion or you own shares in a third world gold farming setup
WoW Classic Fresh.
“No GDKP Points Allowed
Within the NA and EU regions, GDKP (Gold Dragon Kill Points) will not be allowed.”
Imagine posting for over a year on Sod Forum about wanting this crappy system back, trying to convince everyone else that it would make the game better. Only to have it finally drilled into your head that even the next version will still have it removed, because Blizzard has finally realized that the real players don’t want it—that it’s actually only the greedy gold sellers who want this incredibly game-ruining system to stay in the game.

I’m sure there would still be people playing in Era even without it, but I could see it being much more impactful in Era vs SoD. Era you’re fighting against 39 other people for loot half of the time, so gold is more convenient to receive gear quickly over there. Versus SoD where everything is a loot pinata, so its a lot less prevalent. People just HR the items they want or do SR runs to SR the item they’re chasing.
Maybe that incentive will be gone, but thankfully I’ve only ran with guilds that care about just running together and having a good time. We’ve had multiple people that have been fully BiS’d out for a month in BWL and they just stick around to have a good time. There’s no “reward” that they need to keep them there, but I do get todays gaming generation really only cares about their own needs, so its less common to find that.
I’ve been suspended on the forums for a week just for calling a blizzard defender one of their White Knights.
I kid you not.
Edit: It was back in 2020 when the whole cancelling thing was a big fad. I wonder if their mods just got caught up in the craze. The context was someone defending the wow token in classic…
