What SOD devs have done is focus on PVE dps ratings, without taking account of the PVP side. What I mean by this, is that SOD devs gave paladins a top DPS factor in PVE, by giving massive damage values, but did not take account of the PVP element
The way the OG’s in 2003 have made this game, made it exquisitely balanced,
yes paladins are given the X factor of survival abilities; plate armor, bubble and lay on hands, long range stun/incapacitate and bomb heal, but we give them only 1/3 to maybe 1/2 of a warrior’s PVM damage
Paladins are also far more bursty and can unleash DPS within 3 seconds, whereas a warrior has to wait for quite some time to do burst damage. In SOD, they gave paladins the same damage values as a PVM warrior, but then they still have the X factor defensive skills. Not to mention paladins have magic damage which ignore armor completely
It wasn’t actually. About half the classes were left unfinished and it showed. Now, this isn’t a defense of SoD’s balance, and the classes aren’t finished there either regardless…but yeah, classic could have been better, but they’d need the original team back along with the vision and philosophy.
This is about 1v1s? Both Blood Moon and Arathi Basin are based around team fights where Shaman’s tankiness is king.
But warriors are doing pretty badly I’ll give you that. Less damage than shamans, less tanky than shamans, minimal utility… I don’t think you’re really mad at Paladins. Warrior is just down in the dumps so you’re comparing yourself to the next closest seeming class, which happens to be the holy warriors…but everyone’s doing better than you (except mage), this isn’t Alliance specific.
Also to add, Shamans are actually tankier than Paladins both for physical and magic damage, so their class identity strengths are mixed up, which is why Paladins are doing more damage (I assume this is the case anyway, and not just a coincidence). The devs would need to change many runes for both classes to reverse it back.
My pally can wreck some shams in SoD PvP. K? Some can do it. This mage here sucks. Not good gear and even this toon took out a shaman in a 1v1 both of us full HP. It was vs a bad shaman player. So thats how things work. Mages kinda suck. My main is my pally. I have a few paladins though. 3 shamans total and 11 SoD paladins.
So, you got to play the way you want to play, not the way YT streamers are telling you is the best way to play. Me, I post on this mage but I kinda hate it. Not fun to play. Seen lots of shamans get dropped in SoD BGs by just about every class in the game.
What’s balanced about era OG, is that every class had a weakness class.
It’s like playing chess, the minuscule details that modern day players don’t really see, unless they’ve played era to the highest degree and level of PVP with all classes
And that chessboard is still seen in hardcore era king of the hill competition with 100k usd pot. That warlock in the finale only won because the warrior lost in the semis to a mage
Vivendi the OG developer company definitely had a different talent, as young as WOW was in the early stage, they already had that element of a chessboard at hand
Where as in SOD the hero class, the paladin can take on everyone with ease with no weakness class. There’s definitely some differences with how Activision does their balancing. The Cataclysm expansion is an example of a full Activision developed game, and if you played earlier you know that’s quite a different game
Youre delusional bro lol, when they developed vanilla they had a lot of unfinished work when it came to the classes, TBC finally fleshed then out into viability. It wasnt some 140 IQ creation, most of the classes were just garbage. Yeah there are some counters but its not a giant chess board little bro
Um if you’re losing 5v1 against anyone you need to delete all your characters and unsub right now because no amount of nerfing/tuning is going to help you.
Idk bout this 2 button rotation paladins are doing. but im pressing Judgement, divine Storm, Crusader Strike, Seal of Martyrdom, Seal of Command, Concencration, Hammer of wrath, and exorcism. This is excluding my heals, stuns, and defensives. Where as rogues just spam backstab or mutilate depending on the build. boom is starfall and starfire. Hunter is chimera shot, etc. but ye paladin is op they gotta nerf LoH to a 24hr cooldown…
