So after getting on my literal knees and begging and pleading to blizzard to please moderate /2 and also non-roleplay names by toxic players trying to ruin my roleplay pvp server, i was told to just do it myself and when i see something against tos then to report them.
So i did. And now over the last 2 weeks i’ve literally made around 1500 reports in game.
So my question is, is blizzard shadow banning my report button because of it’s activity? because i make reports and though the offenders text disappears from my chat, i still see the other people who are arguing with said offender still conversing with them.
IT’S LIKE NOTHING IS BEING DONE.
And when i report botters, once in a long while i’ll get mail saying “thank you” from blizzard, so does that mean all the other botters didnt get banned? How about we also get a mail for every name that we successfully had removed as well?
I’m just saying, you guys said trust the system, so i did 1500 times, and i literally feel like it worked maybe 10-15 times total. What kind of system is that? it’s feeling like it will work a few times and then it says, “hey this guy is just spamming reports so auto shadowban his reports”.
So what am i supposed to do now, because leveling in the barrens today on Crasader Strike it got EXTREMELY BAD. EXTREMELY. Toxic trolls spewing political hate and lots of gay and gender hate speech and discussion. People literally saying they want to “eliminate” the opposing ideology. It went on for hours, any GM here can go check the chat logs for proof. It was so bad i couldnt keep up with the reports, and none of those who i reported stopped chatting.
There is no such thing as shadow-banning. There are enough tin-foil hat theories out there, let’s not add this to it, please.
If you’re silenced/suspended/banned, there is nothing shadow about it. You will receive the email and your account will reflect the sanction. They won’t lock people from reporting too much like that. Cherry-picking one small aspect of the game has never been something they’ve done - it’s all or nothing.
Make sure in your report you include this is a rp realm. Gm seeing the report might not notice and many more names pass the sniff test for normal realms.
You have been playing WoW (and other Blizzard games), on many WoW accounts and Bnet accounts, for something like 10 years now (based on forum activity), so you know quite well how the report systems work, both in-game, and on the forums.
No, you are not shadow banned. The report system accepts ONE report per Bnet account. Further reports do not stack so that one person can’t try to game the report system, at least on one Bnet account. A report hides the chat for the duration of the play session. Switching chars, or exiting game resets that temp mute.
There is no bolt of lightening that comes down and strikes players just because you reported them. It can take several different people reporting before it reaches a GM queue, then eventually gets a decision made.
The mail system letting you know you successfully reported something is not working correctly. Most of the time it sends nothing, and when it does you get like 25 at once.
Keep in mind that penalties for chat infractions have increased the past several years. It is 1 week Silence for a first offense, followed by Suspensions for further infractions. Weeks long Suspensions.
You know all this though… there is a reason your threads are memes with the regs on General. It is great to want to clean up the game, but the hyperbolic threads don’t help.
Report them for language! It works and might not be instant unless you get a lot of people to report that person. Then they get a Squelch! That stays until a gm reviews why that happened and if a further action is needed or not.
Many reports only mean that will get seen sooner then later, It does not have in anyway effect if an action is taken or not.
For example you can be reported once and still get actioned if you violated the TOS. Yet you can have many reports but if you did not break the rules nothing happens.
Here’s how to help yourself get over this. Report and move on. Doesn’t matter what takes place on the backend. This will make you happier then stewing over the “what ifs” or the “why’s”.
To be honest, it doesn’t matter what happens to the offenders. You did your part by reporting them so move on. Once you report them there is nothing more you need from Blizzard as they can see all the chat logs and take appropriate action against the person if they violated the rules.
If the game does not live up to your standards then perhaps moving on would be something you want to do. Find a game that does exactly what you want and makes you happy. Good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for in a game.
This. Frankly it’s none of your business what happens to another player after you have submitted your report. So report and move on. Judging by the several threads CS gets each week about ‘I was wrongfully banned/suspended/silenced/etc.’, I’m going to trust that the system is working as intended and go about my day.
It has been so long since I have reported anyone that I don’t remember exactly what the in-game mail states. Does it actually say they have taken action or does it just say ‘thank you for the report, we’ll look into it’?
Something along the lines of thanking you for your report and letting you know it led to action to keep the community safe. However, the system is broken right now and has not worked for a long time. It never sends the message - it is a message at the top right of the screen by the map. If it does manage to send the message, you get 25 or so all at once and no idea what they were from.
I report when needed, but I am on a smaller server so things don’t get as out of hand I guess. The number of people coming here complaining they got Silenced a week (first offense), or Suspended (further offenses) is high. So I know they do action accounts.
They just don’t do it immediately or on some time line that someone would want. They are not going to see the immediate results of their reports - esp if nobody else reports the chat. One Bnet account = one report counted - no matter how many chars a person uses to report.
Accounts that get Squelched have many different bnet accounts reporting them in a short period of time.
Also something to keep in mind as a general rule is that just because you don’t like a name or a particular thing that was said in chat doesn’t always mean it’s a violation of policy.
yah im thoroughly aware of the rp server naming rules, but it seems a lot of you bringing this up are not fully aware of all of the rules. this is a rppvp server. and i report so many because a lot of players joined the server with no regard for the rules so they could follow streamers.
Additional Rules for Role Playing Realms
World of Warcraft Role Play (RP) realms are intended to provide players with an added level of immersion in the game world and must avoid being disruptive to the world. Examples of common unacceptable or disruptive RP names include (but are not limited to):
Non-medieval or non-fantasy names (For example: Slipnslide, Robotman, Discoinferno)
Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)
Names that consist of multiple words (For example: Inyourface, Welovebeef, Howareyou, Sixtyseventy)
Blizzard reserves the right to assign a random name to any character violating our RP naming policy. For more severe or repeat violations, we may apply additional penalties to the account.
Blizzard usualy doesntvname lock a toon on first violation they will give the player a chance to choose a new name most do alot will rename it the same name.
