Social Anxiety and Blizzard's push to exclude those with it -or- Hey, where the heck is my good solo content?

“People want to progress their character “ is apparently the new way of saying people want better gear without doing the content…

I mean I’m right in that those were the arguments people made.

I’m sad to believe people think they’re the correct arguments.

What’s worse is it just shows the callous nature of individuals toward other people. Their true nature exposed as wicked people.

Only advice I have for the OP as someone who also suffers from Social Anxiety. Get a therapist, go regularly. Start actually working on Real Life relationships because the internet ones tend not to last and don’t develop you emotionally.

As demonstrated here people are quick to toss them because it’s what’s easy for them. Their behavior makes them feel like they’re in the right because that’s how the view things but truly it’s sad what the OP has posted.

I’ve been in therapy for social anxiety since I was 10; But that helped me out a lot. I even worked as an intern in DC and then in my state capital with the disorder; but that didn’t come from sitting playing MMORPGs.

In truth OP if you’re reading this-- WoW isn’t worth it let me tell ya. WoW is a game. It’s not going to make you happy these people on here offering their solutions are showing you what they really think of you, and the answer is little. Just saying this as someone who’s probably gone through what you have-- the best thing you can do is really focus on real life improvements because in the long run they’ll yield the happiness you’re looking for.

Let the gamers sit in front of their screens in judgment.

Visions was a start, but grinding entrance mats took to long for me, so I didn’t risk going further that just three bosses usually. If not for the mat grinding I would have been all in. Mythical don’t require mat grinding for entrance. Why does the limited wow solo progression alway require a grind while raids and M+ can just log in and go? Should have solo scenarios you can do without a few to prove your skill for gear.

First, your social anxiety impacts more than just your WoW experience. I’d recommend working on feeling more confident with yourself. I dealt with it, too, but I got through it and over it. I still deal with low self-esteem and it really sucks, but honestly getting out there and making mistakes and learning is the best way through it. Social anxiety is not a permanent state of being. I like to think of it as the brain working overtime to project the future on too little data. Give it more data even if that means messing up or doing well! That’s part of life. For WoW, find a person you can be friends with. Find a casual, small group. Do fun content you can feel confident in. Edited to add maybe you should write down all the positive experiences you had in WoW (and in life) where you did well–even if they’re small and basically insignificant.

Unfortunately, the game won’t change for you, but I do get where you’re coming from.

(Not talking in a guild can just mean you’re withdrawn [which is not the same as having social anxiety]. Even the most confident folks in my old guild never talked. That just wasn’t their personality, or they didn’t have the right environment to have a mic in.)

I wish you all the best.

Mythics requires 20 people, which is a grind in itself, all on one server until months after the raid comes out.

I don’t mind the idea of solo content being added to the game for gear progression, but raiding isn’t as log in and go as you seek to indicate.

I am sorry but you seem to have picked some bad guilds. My guild has all levels of players. We run M+ 2s-15s to help as many as possible. We even have a list of which members need 5s, 10s and 15s to upgrade their gear with valor.

We do not require anyone to talk in discord unless they are playing a tank. Other than that just listen. Now that may change if fights in the new raids require talking as it has in the past but right now it is not a requirement.

I did notice not all of your covenant gear has been upgraded. I know that isn’t a lot but it is a few ilvls higher for you.

Also you seem to have been pvping in the past, you can get some good gear that way too.

I wish you luck with whatever you decide.

yes because as we all know mmorpg games are literally just skyrim with coop and have no other selling points.

Some of us want solo progression like we had at the end of BFA.
Visions were a great way to do that and challenging for most players.

We literally went from a progressive challenge solo content right back to world quests with the occasional rare chance at something better than 194/197.

I’m trying to do the content. My last three guild ALL said they were “friendly and helpful” yet they were the opposite. How may toxic guilds do I have to sift through to find one that really is “Friendly and Helpful”?

“It’s a you problem because mental illnesses are your fault and no one else has to accommodate you.”

I mean ya.

When MMORPGs came out internet and massively online presence was a new feeling.

Today though? Co-Op games do it better. MMORPGs are like the Amish communities. The players are the Amish and it’s like they refuse to acknowledge that cars have been invented.

As long as you can raid while baked social anxiety won’t be an issue my guy.

Our guild understands shyness and anxiety all too well, and we will never shun you for silently participating in our activities.

I know it’s a pain to be in the hunt for the right place, but I seriously recommend that you do not resign yourself to the pug life or a toxic guild - you’ll definitely find a proper home that can get you to participate in harder content while not feeling pressured.

honestly mmo games are a whole different beast then single player games and im surprised nobodies thought to mix the 2 past a super surface level. (i.e dragon age, or amalur. with their tab target control scheme. but none of the actual spell interactions that make it good)

No. Because without the gear as a motivator, almost nobody will do the content. People don’t do content to challenge themselves they do it for the gear. And its not like there couldn’t be any form of challenging content that doesn’t require grouping together with complete weirdo’s and jerks all the time.

I mean, Visions were kinda made to be done in a group too, you could just choose to do them solo. And if you want something like that, there’s always torghast. Though they could stand to make the rewards better from that.

Gear that doesn’t change your gameplay experience due to you never doing content that needs it seems like a pretty poor reward to me but maybe I’m crazy. If they do make solo content hopefully it’ll have a better reward than just more gear.

No. To quote you.

The gear is the motivator to work your way up. That’s the whole point.

You work at Wendy’s right now and want Tesla wages.

You get normal raid gear basically from COV. If you are truly anxious like the OP you don’t want to push that content, so why do you need that gear?

And frankly your “weirdos and jerks” line makes me think this is not a gear problem at all but attitude in general.

You still have covenant pieces to upgrade.

You can get a piece of gear from a calling quest from time to time.

You can kill world bosses, but that requires joining a group.

You can make, and upgrade a leggo.

You are also at the end of the first release of Shadowlands, as content is released, your rewards for the content your willing to do will increase. That’s about all you can expect. And yea, this is a multiplayer game with some solo aspects. But if your not ever going to participate in group content, what you can get will provide more than enough power to conquer the open world, which is all you want to do anyway.

Sounds like what you need to do is the same thing you would do for literally every single expansion this game has ever had… you wait for the next major patch when all your gear is invalidated by new quest, lfr and dungeon rewards… then you quit for a while until the next patch and you do it all again.

this is the cycle the game has had for a very long time
