So whats the line between proper representation and "pandering"

The difference between outright bigotry and opposition to “politically motivated” representation is that the former is honest about their bigotry and the latter lies about it. There is no real or legitimate basis for opposing the inclusion of LGBTQ themes or characters in a FANTASY VIDEO GAME other than rank bigotry. It’s just a matter of how or whether one chooses to rationalize their bigotry.

Why do straight people need to have a purpose to the narrative? Why do I need to know someone’s orientation in the first place when the important factor here is the wildlife being endangered by the elements?

Yes? There’s a reason the latter half of the Cataclysm story sucked so hard. Nevermind that an entire patch cycle was devoted to Thrall officially hooking up with Aggra

basically. One at least owns their opinions. The others who KNOW everyone would hate their true beliefs, so they hide it, like the cowards they are.

The solution for this problem is that there should be zero representation. This is causing a constant problem not only here but society at large and attempts to normalize it isn’t working for various reasons.

Care to link some threads of you complaining about Thralls sexuality being shoved in your face and pandering?

Also…

Although you claim (without evidence) there are “dozens” of quests of this nature, I in no way believe this claim. Dozen(s), plural, literally means AT LEAST two dozen… but to me implies more. So at LEAST 24 quests.

I have no problem saying I don’t think there are even 24. But let’s be nice and agree there are 36. Just for fun.

There are currently more than 33,800 quests in the game (that’s just a fair, round number).

So even being OVERLY generous with the idea of 36 quests involving married couples, that would make it 0.00106% of the game as we know it.

Do you REALLY expect anyone to take that argument seriously??

Because I don’t. My claim is more accurate: there aren’t any. While it’s not a technically accurate claim, in loose terms, it fairly addresses the point.

I won’t even begin to get into how unreasonable a request that is and just say that threads from back then don’t exist anymore anyway

Pandering is a function of motivation and I don’t think we really ever know the true motivations behind an entire organizations actions. Maybe they really do care and think they are doing a good thing and this is representation, or maybe it is a cynical ploy to keep themselves from being cancelled, protested against, or worse.

Blizzard really got into some hot mess a couple years back. As a now conquered property, have to spend the rest of their days, even employees three generations from now, apologizing and doing what they are told by Reddit posters.

There is a difference between RPG and eRPG. This isn’t leisure suit Larry.

I like stories. Stories about why I need to go kill people…

You know, I might just be playing a role here on the forums about wanting to kill everything…

Doesn’t mean I want my RPG about anything other than adventures and not sexual ones. I hear there are websites for that sort of thing

Yes? try actually reading quest text. TONS of quests deal with getting something for or protecting someone’s spouse/loved one.

I actually saw a post on the forums that made all this make sense for me.

Paraphrasing here, but it basically was " You can be the worst kind of capitalist, using real life current day slave labor, have ties to countries that put people in detention centers for being different, abuse your employees to the nth degree, but if you say you support the current thing, all those other things will be forgiven."

That does seem to fit the available set of facts. I’m more cynical about this stuff. I mean Blizzard was pushing this stuff with the “Inclusion Nexus” at Blizzcon while simultaneously maintaining a hostile work environment. It’s less about what you do, and more about what you are seen to do. The representation in the game isn’t going to meaningfully improve anyone’s life, it’s not like an act of charity, but it gets a lot more attention than a small deed.

I am very much 110% pro capitalism. Being allowed to run my own business, provide a service/product to someone who needs it for $$$ so I can pay my own bills is a wonderful system to live in. I can choose to not work for some evil corporation that so many complain about (and then turn around and support anyway, lol)

On that last point, it never ceases to amaze me how anti corporation…anti greed…pro employee…some folks are (or claim to be, i should say)…who then turn around and vote for the EXACT some politicians those greedy, anti employee corporations do. lmao.

If one is anti greedy corp…and one finds themselves voting for the SAME people those greedy corps are supporting, one is either seriously uneducated…or seriously a liar.

Worst kind? The things you listed are the basics of capitalism.

Most people could care less about employee treatment as long as prices are low.

Of course, any attempt to fix that certainly wouldn’t have you screaming about socialists I’m sure.

hardly.
vile greedy people exist and abuse in ALL systems.

Not trying to say I am anti capitalism - I understand how and why it works and is the best alternative. I just know that many of the tribe that is anti capitalist support folks that do worse than most capitalists would do simply because they put a flag or fist on their webpage.

It’s a literal get out of jail free card for the company for that tribe

Who remembers the game Fable? For those that don’t your character could actually marry in the game and your character could be every sexuality that you wanted them to be. Did that stop any of us who did play any of the Fable games from playing? No, is the answer. Did any of us stop playing when the game developers even introduced same-sex couples or trans people in the game? again the answer is no. It is a game. Play the game as you would like it. It does not nor should it matter someone’s sexual identity unless they are flaunting it for attention or trying to shove their lifestyle down your throat to change who you are as a person or even how you want to play your character.
