The quest had quite a few bugs for me, but the story? I liked it. Not in my top ten moments of TWW so far or anything, but it was just fine for ending the Kirin Tor (as we knew them) and Dalaran.
I dunno. I was tired of Dalaran. Not just as the default “we have a magic problem, Dalaran is the one and only solution” bit, but also as the “default neutral city” bit. I used to main Horde. Dalaran never felt very neutral to me. Pre-MoP it was that human city I got to hang out in because Arthas. Post-MoP, it was that human city I could be thrown out of at any given moment because someone had to mana bomb and someone else had to despot as a response.
But it does leave way too many dangling threads. Pillars of Creation, everyone locked up in the prison who are supposed to be major bigtime threats, all kinds of things over the years. I would have liked some mention, but it is okay. I’m sure if it comes up later, we shall either learn we all forgot about the super-important powerful artifacts Dalaran once held, or they had been conveniently stored off-site.
Or Blizz forgot the pillars of creation despite the explorers book said they were brought back in Dalaran. And say that they were left in the Tomb of Sargeras. But that would mean the book would not be canon.
I thought the same thing! Ah man if this was a Tabletop RPG this would have been one of those moment they turn on that NPC that they didn’t like in their story and make it look like an accident or die in the attempt.
As I was doing the quest I picture it in my mind and smile… as they plan, talking if they could use the artifacts around the bomb against Jaina etc… Aw, I miss my crazy Horde friends!
I think I’ll call them later and see what they been upto and what chaos they brought to other games or RPGs.
I’d probably have enjoyed it more/found it more bittersweet before BFA and SL broke the setting for me, but I’ve never recovered from that. I didn’t really feel anything.
I really want to know what happened to all the uh, big important magic artifacts? not just the random no-name ones in the quests. People have mentioned the Pillars of Creation, but there’s also the Focusing Iris, the soulstone Kathra’natir was stuck in, the Forge of the Guardians… I’m probably missing some others. Not a peep.
they just flat out ignored everything that happened between Aethas and Jaina, from Jaina’s end. they had Aethas begging the TP people to find a present for Jaina as an apology for months but nothing on Jaina’s end, not even an acknowledgement AFAIK.
they also ignored Jaina ragequitting the Kirin Tor during Legion as well. I’m not sure why she was involved here in the first place.
I am still vaguely hopeful the Hall of the Guardian is not actually part of Dalaran but a pocket dimension which was linked to it, and as a security precaution it automatically severed its links when the city started falling apart.
It seemed to of inexplicably survived the first collapse of Dalaran, also, given it was said no one had been in there in decades…
Also I am unwilling to accept they killed the best girl ever, Ari.
Wait what!? WHAT!? WHAAAAAAT!? I am trying to get back into this game, and now you’re telling me the KIRIN TOR DISSOLVED!
Screw it! Screw it! Screw it! This Lore sucks, this expansion sucks, I’m tired of pretending it’s good or has a modicum of a chance. No more, I can’t keep buttering it up for myself.
Actually play the quest before raging out. The kirin Tor is going through a rebuilding phase. Majority of their people died and now they’re restructuring the whole rules and ideals of the kirin Tor into a new version of it.
That is it. They’re going to be more nomadic in nature, less into nations politics and more about studying magic, learning new magic and teaching others about magic instead of keeping everything in a vault.
More freedom, less restrictions and more about magic for magic sake instead of power.
For power, that is for us warlocks.
Never listen to the forums. a lot of people miss story beats in favor of raging instead and go on to the forums to whine.
Aye, they are turning from old Jedi order in old canon to the new Jedi order that is less into politics and more about exploring, learning and helping others without nations getting in the way
Though diminished, they have some very powerful wizards left in their ranks, so it is perfectly possible they could base themselves out of a sizable pocket dimension—Which they just got done reintroducing the player to the notion of in the Dalaran summary quest.
I sort of like the notion they do that, since it means they are on no one’s territory but their own.
Every author’s pet allegation that has ever been thrown at Anduin and Sylvanas pales in comparison to just how blatant of an author’s pet Jaina has been. Since BFA, she’s a saint that can do absolutely no wrong. The closest its come to portraying her as wrong was her looking sinister as Rastakhan died… and the fight itself was headed up by Genn not her.
Debatable. In MoP, the PURGE of Dalaran was rightfully portrayed as an extreme response to what happened and Varian Wrynn(of all people) castigated her for it. She also had the infamous “Dismantle the horde” moment. Also, her throwing a fit and abandoning Dalaran during Legion is pretty indefensible.
It’s only when she came back in BFA where suddenly she’s the strongest mage alive on Azeroth and also she’s realized that being a violent racist is bad but also also the stuff she did in the past is now not worth bringing up and she was in the right anyways.
