Not Tyrande, Not Malfurion, Shandris.
At the very least its someone from Warcraft 3. I guess this is her time to shine in the spotlight.

If we let Tyrande in on the story that matters most to her, how would the Horde night elves ever have time to shine here, huh? Think of the how the Horde must feel in all this. Their night elves matter!
I’m not against her at all. In reality I’m more than happy to see her shine by herself but that doesn’t change the fact that it feels like a huge slap to the face of Night Elves as a race and specially to Tyrande/Malfurion.
And to make things even worse, instead of them we got Jaina/Genn. I mean like what? Are you for real Blizzard?
No amount of explaining will ever be enough to look past this mockery of lore night elves got with this patch because at the end of the day the story is written by Blizzard so they were the ones who chose to write the night elves out of the fight against their biggest nemesis.
I just won’t ever get tired of pointing out that if it’s possible for Nathanos to be in everywhere in all patches for all quests/raids, etc then so it’s possible for Tyrande to at least appear for one minute to assess the situation and after that place Shandris in charge of things there. Problem solved. Also the excuse that Tyrande is who knows where doing who knows what in Kalimdor falls flat when Blizzard made her and Malfurion drop everything they where doing to witness Anduin get a new ship.
Putting maiev malfurion and tyrande all on the warfront was over doing it a bit
If you’re mad about Tyrande not being there, be upset about HOW the setup of the conflict was designed … rather then her not being there with THIS setup. Because honestly, THAT is the real issue with this battle against Azshara.
With the setup being a it is WE didn’t even want to battle against Azshara. We end up in Naz’jatar due to the sea being opened up beneath us, and we were forced into a war of that zone that seems to take place over a VERY short amount of time. As such, the primary characters of that zone are those that happened to be on the boats. For the Horde, its Nathanos, Lor’themar, and Thalyssra. For the Alliance its Jaina, Genn, and Shandris (and here lies the primary issue).
Bluntly, Tyrande (the literal avatar of a Gods vengeance) has absolutely ZERO reason to be on a random Alliance vessel in the middle of the ocean; least of all when she’s waging a guerrilla war on a continent that holds the focal point of that very vengeance. Shandris (also a WotA veteran) in contrast, has been working closely with the Seventh Legion this expansion … and thus the chances of her being on one of those ships are at least justifiable (and far more possible).
I get that NE posters are upset here, but you would need a remarkably different setup to justify Tyrande’s presence in Naz’jatar (especially with her current prioritize and current contentions with the Alliance). So … be pissed at the setup, rather than the prospect of one of your deeply neglected B-listers finally getting a chance at some relevance and development. Especially since with her TOTAL absence from 8.2, the chances of Tyrande having a big role in 8.2.5 or 8.3 do increase.
I’m surprised the Night Elf representative wasn’t Jaina or Saurfang.
That’s why I said I’m mad at Blizzard because they chose to tell Azshara’s story like this. She is just a mean to set N’zoth free and by doing so Night Elves were robbed of a fight they deserved being the protagonists.
In an ideal setting, the fight against Azshara should have been led by Night Elves (Tyrande) and Nightborne (Thalyssra) with support from both Blood/Void elves ala Suramair campaign but Blizzard decided to use one of the biggest villains elves had as a quick trip to get us to another baddie.
If you think you’ve got it bad right now try being a horde fan
Your Horde Civil War is a much more interesting one then the MOP one with Garrosh.
I agree, that is what the setup should have been. They used her as a plot-device for the sake of Sylvie’s personal story (and man … it truly is atrocious how much Sylvie’s storyline seems to be coming at the expense of the NE, Alliance, and Horde’s stories this expansion).
It honestly feels like this entire expansion is merely an extension of Sylvie’s personal narrative; and that’s because whatever she is doing will lead directly into the next expansion. As such, Blizz seems to have started with the concluding point of BfA … and worked their way back (haphazardly filling in the space to “functionally” get the peaces they want in place in place; among those … the Allied races). Rather than … designing a story that could stand on its own.
Still want to know what Cenarius is up to. Is he flying around offscreen on the Vindicaar or what?
Um in what sense? We are following a super villian
Better presentation of the story. Way more interesting events. The Burning of Teldrassil > Bombing of Theramore.
Siege of Lordaeron was awesome.
This, basically. For me, it’s never been a matter of Tyrande or Shandris. It’s more why all these extra things, like Genn, and the Ankoan, and not Tyrande. I’d go so far as to say Tyrande is probably the closest thing to a rival Azshara’s had (not that she’d word it as such), with her shots at Tyrande replacing her as “Queen”, and Tyrande thinking enough of herself to decline the honor of being her handmaiden all those years ago. It’s not like Elves are known for letting things go.
“But she’d have to work with the Horde.” No. She would not. Co-operation is only a theme in 8.2 because the writers have arbitrarily decreed it thus. If we can take on the endless forces of the Burning Legion, and still be at each other’s throats ala Stormheim, we can take on Azshara and still be at each others throats (isn’t there a PVP thing in Nazjatar, anyway?). Heck, it’s not even the first (or second, or third) time we’d have simultaneously fought the Old God’s forces and each other.
“But she wasn’t on the boat.” Neither was Magni. And yet, he still finds us there, and sends us on the Essences quests. Where we leave, and eventually come back. Not to mention Jaina leaving to rescure Baine, then coming back to Nazjatar. We’re not locked in (and she’s not locked out), like it was with WoD, or Argus.
FTFY.
There is plenty of Humans in Jaina, Anduin, Genn (Technically), and Spymaster Shaw.
Is there any confirmation that Azshara will be dying for good in this patch? Seems like kind of a waste if so.
I’m not watching the video or reading the other comments because you know I don’t like to be spoiled but this is so disappointing. Tyrande usurped by Jaina and Thalyssra. Why have all these lore characters and interconnected story lines of you’re not going to use them properly.
Aside from being her captive and mock puppet, Tyrande hasn’t had any real interaction with Azshara. She’s certainly not even close to ever having been her rival. Shandris at least has the military experience that Tyrande doesn’t.
Sigh
I normally try not to engage you, since you have this odd fixation on responding to other Night Elf fans, to basically always tell them Night Elves shouldn’t get anything, and should be terrible at everything.
But, how do you figure this? Tyrande is Shandris’ direct military superior. Besides being considerably older than Shandris, in nearly every conflict Shandris has been in, Tyrande’s been at least on the periphery, if not directly involved. Plus Tyrande’s solo trips, like the EK in WCIII, or Val’sharah.
And because it’s fundamentally necessary to reach the overall conclusion that they’re moving towards.
This expansion isn’t going to end with everyone being at war with everyone forever. Reconciliation has to happen at some point.
