So Riot is hiring veteran WoW developers does this mean RIOT MMO?

Their recent champions are all terrible though and it’s obvious they are just catering to the Asian markets with their anime-esque line up.

They did build an amazing world. One that even rivals WoW, but they seem more interested in pandering than making interesting champions like they did in the past.

In regards to F2P games, Blizzard have a significantly worse track record than Riot do.

I’m not sure how it is now since supposedly they’ve changed it. But before Hearthstone was ridiculously predatory, with the largest bundle offering like 40% of the set for ~100 USD and then ontop of that Blizzard introducing a “battlepass” system that was significantly less value than the regular F2P system.

Generally speaking, having played most of Riots new games (since they went from Riot Game to Riot Games) that’s the general feel I’ve gotten from their new releases.

It feels like it’s okay if the games aren’t complete smash hits like Valorant was (though Runeterra is pretty popular, it just doesn’t really rival HS or MtG yet), but we’ll have to see how their other games pan out.

Yeah, LoL feels like the safe cash-cow that Riot has, but the world-building aspect has been done really well in their card game.

You know how Lissandra is always going on about “the Watchers”? In her LoR version, they printed a “what if” scenario where one of the Watchers actually wakes up, which was pretty cool.

This is the kind of thread that makes me ask myself, “Do they enjoy all that wrist slapping back and forth?”

Like kids in the back seat…

“Stop it!”
“No YOU stop it!”
“Mooo-ooom he put his knee on MY Siiii-iiiiide!”

WoW redefined the entire genre (which was incredibly new at the time) and set the standard that other successful MMOs, like Black Desert, Final Fantasy, and Elder Scrolls all follow, even though none of those IPs can touch WoW’s total population.

Is it possible for a dev to capture lightning and put all that competition to shame? Sure, but that is not a bet I would ever take, especially with a company like Riot. Blizz at least had experience with RPG mechanics in the Diablo franchise and Warcraft III before they ever tinkered with the MMORPG concept.

knowing riot and blizzard

no

Riot is making an mmo its been in the works for a while now theres a good amount of stuff online about it

Will Riot be good?

Reply hazy, ask again later.

I mean league of legends has more players currently than WOW.

whats that gotta do with anything?

It speaks to the likelihood, or lack thereof, of a company like Riot successfully pulling off an MMO. It’s easier to redefine a genre when said genre isn’t in decline and oversaturated with competition.

Nope. Reply Hazy, Ask Again Later.

They also don’t all play MMOs, but they do all play MOBAs, so there’s no way to tell how many existing LoL players will even try a LoL-themed MMO. Just like there’s no way to tell how many current MMO players will play the Riot MMO. At the very least, it’s all of the MMO players minus me, and a few that I’ve seen post that they will never play it. Probably more than I would predict, and less than Riot hopes.
