So Q'onzu, who are they?

Was imprisoned by Y’sera in the dream for not helping when the Dream was last attacked by evil, they dug their way out of the Dream, which was deemed impossible. They ‘hid out’ for a while amongst the mortals, presumably the trolls, hence the ‘Loa’ title. They were allowed back into the dream. Who are they?

(granted I have only got up to the point in the quests where they flew the coop after dodging questions about their identity so if their identity is revealed later this may be jumping the gun.)

Q’onzu is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma, in a paradox shaped box.

Which is exactly how they want it.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would postulate they may be another child of Elune, but born of Elune alone or another being of the Life Pantheon. They appear to have a special link to the Moonkin as such.

As the Zandalari have no records of them, it is likely Q’onzu was a Dark Troll Loa, I could totally see them leading the trolls to the well just because they thought it be fun to see what happened.

This I think is the most fascinating aspect of it. There have been many shapeshifters in troll lore. Mueh’zala is also a shapeshifter and if the primitive dark trolls worshipped Q’onzu before Mueh’zala that would be some interesting new lore.

Another strange tie to Mueh’zala is how Q’onzu is described by Avianna as being ‘content to watch the druids of the flame but the tree’ in the Traveler series, Mueh’zala makes a threat that, “after the fire burns, he will feast on all of Azeroth.” I just think that might be a neat tie-in.

Where does Q’onzu being imprisoned come from?

I don’t see a reason to think they have any unique origins from other Wild Gods, they just happen to not really get along with them is all.

I agree with the trolls who worshiped them specifically being dark trolls.

Speaking to the gossiping dryads, it’s gossip, so you have to piece together the truth through gossip. “Y’sera imprisoned them, no no that’s wrong.” But she did because they had to escape by digging themselves out of the Emerald Dream and they “went into hiding” again, assuming they were in trouble.

Q’onzu has apparently just… always been there. I would say it is pretty likely they might predate Eonar ordering the area into the static state it has been trapped in until now. Q’onzu was apparently not a fan of the Titan’s handiwork in their home and acted out a lot.

Could Q’onzu be working with the Void? Aessina says Q’onzu seems content to watch the Druids of the Flame tear down the fabric of the Dream.

All around Amirdrassil there’s hints that something is trying to attack Amirdrassil and infect it’s roots. (Not unlike how the Void tried to reach the Dream through the Rift of Aln.

Oh and I havent seen anyone notice this but the Druids of the Flame are possibly being pushed over to the next expansion.

When Q’onzu sends us to spy on the Druids there’s a book called Ashwood Research Binder written by former Night Elf herbalist Firoden Mooncaller now “Dawncaller” is following a mysterious Prophet of Flame. The Druid of the Flame were supplied by the Artisan Consortium.

I do not think so, Q’onzu is just exceedingly old and thus prone to extreme boredom. He finds the static perfection of the Dream under Titanic management very… dull. I am sure he found it fun at first, but then nothing changed.

That is why he was all for the Druids of the Flame forcing change until he realized all they would be doing is invoking a new form of static existence. Then he turned against them in principle.

The Cdev Q&A #2 adds insight into why there are no trolls in the Emerald Dream it’s because they kept calling whisps ‘Loa.’ They disrespected Night Elf nomenclature.

Loa are ‘spirits’ after all, so when Q’onzu was hiding out amongst the Trolls, they may have learned about spirits and possibly another shapeshifter the trolls worshiped named Mueh’zala, I doubt he stole from Gonk.

I doubt they’d have anything to do with the void. I figured it was more, life is naturally chaotic and seeing how Q’onzu acts, I’d imagine everything being ordered either really bothers them, or just makes everything boring.

Gonk has never been referred to as Loa of Change. Gonk is Loa of Shapes:

Princess Talanji says: Loa of Shapes. You are a welcome sight.

Ironically Q’onzu contributed no change, or anything of significance to these events for that matter, and in turn just felt like filler, as the story would have gone exactly the same with our without Q’onzu ever having been added to the game.

Yes, that is true.

Though… I am going to imagine they must have plans of some sort for Q’onzu in the future, they went through a lot of effort to introduce them.
