Spam is defined by frequency as much as relevance.
It isn’t spam. This is just upset players being butthurt about an addon because as soon as it is announced, they complain that they missed out on the kill. Seriously.
Posting it once by one person is not spam.
Posting it multiple times at the same time by the one person is spam. Huge Difference.
But as I said, there is always that option of turning off general chat.
Having multiple players using those add-ons at the same time. Huger Difference.
Exactly. If it were the same person posting the same rare, that’d be spamming.
But it’s not. Often times, it’s different people posting the same rare, because they have different addons.
It’s not our fault Blizzard decided to go back to a long respawn rare system and forced players to make those addons, and multiple people made them at the same time.
We can’t suddenly make tens of thousands of players switch to the same exact addon at the same time.
And the addon isn’t spamming. It announces the rare, it may toss out a percentage, and then it says when it’s dead. Some don’t even go that far. One to three messages from a person over the course of five minutes isn’t spam.
Lets asked several questions then?
- How is Player A supposed to know if Player B is using the same addon before a message gets popped in, hmmm?
- How is it a bad thing when Player A uses an Addon to announce a rarespawn popping up along with location to the rest of the people in that zone?
- How hard is it when Player C doesn’t like to see the messages in general chat so they turn off general chat?
I mean, if you’re upset by the general chat of people using the addons in Nazjartar/Mechagon, it isn’t hard to “Turn Off General” so you don’t see it. But people shouldn’t be punished for something that they’re not doing wrong.
Or put people on ignore.
And for the people who still think this thread is lying - if you were in Mechagon/Nazjatar today, I assume you either noticed General dead or very close to dead compared to normal. (I saw a few people using it, but within like 30 seconds, someone would warn them about it, and in one case, I did)
I assume you can figure out this thread with 146 replies is not the reason for that. There’s much bigger posts on reddit, facebook, etc. alerting people to stop using them because of it. (Not made by me)
People are legitimately scared of being silenced, cause it not only affects WoW, it affects all Blizzard games, and prevents you from whispering even Battle.net friends if you get silenced, and the penalty just gets worse and worse. It may start at 24 hours the first time, but it doubles each time.
I sincerely hope Blizzard addresses this soon. I HOPE it’s something like them saying the GMs who silenced did so in error or such.
It’s a shame that people are pro-silence for announcing rares.
If you don’t want to see people using /1 to announce rares, leave the channel.
That’s been the go-to line people use on these forums for everything else, like guild spam, run sellers, etc… Just ignore it or leave the channel.
Now you have people using an add-on that only serves to help other players getting punished to the point people are uninstalling the add-ons and being told to stop being helpful and thoughtful.
Great sense of community that is…
These add-ons don’t benefit the users of the add-on, but rather other players in the zone who might be interested in killing a rare.
Nazjatar has several rares with random spawn locations, including Soundless, so a name and coordinates are incredibly helpful.
Mechagon has a few random spawn location rares and a few highly sought after rares.
Anyone who shares information like that should be applauded, not silenced. It felt like Timeless Isle again, which had an amazing sense of community when it came to rare hunting.
After seeing all the hate from a few vocal people, I’m reluctant to even manually call out a rare with a location.
So to all the players reporting people for “spamming” rare announcements, congratulations on killing what little sense of community Blizzard managed to reignite with 8.2
It becomes a problem when you have 5 people using addons and they sent out 15 messages for that one rare over the course of a minute. Since this problem appears to happen most during busy times when at least some of the servers aren’t CRZ’d what you and I see will be entirely different.
Does seem much like timeless isle to me because I don’t consider addon spam to be communication.
And it becomes a problem for who?
I’ve never seen that happen and play on Stormrage-Alliance and Area52-Horde.
Most I’ve seen for a single rare was maybe 3 or 4 messages including a death message.
*edit- Also what exactly should players be using the coveted /1 for if not calling out rares in zones designed for rare hunting/killing? Should they be spamming carries and guild ads?
I guess it becomes a problem for the people who end up getting reported for spamming and silenced because they don’t have common sense to turn off their addons when they aren’t needed.
I posted a screen shot that showed 3 death messages for one rare. I saw 6 messages including 3 deaths messages for another rare.
If I reduced my font size in my chat box I imagine I could have picked up that entire thing in a screen shot but taking two to prove to people who don’t want to listen seemed a waste of time.
It is a problem for them when there are such bad people out there that gets upset by an addon that doesn’t do anything harmful towards them or the game.
Using an addon to communicate to let people know of rare spawns is up is not needed how?
It isn’t needed when there are 4 other people with addons doing the exact same thing. However, I am not going to arguing with you about this because you are just here to pick a fight and insult.
Pick a fight huh? Insult huh?
I am pretty sure you were the one who created a thread saying that using the Addon is against the ToU, as said in the title?
EDIT: Sorry, mistaken you for the other thread owner. Please forgive me. But not fighting or insulting.
It doesn’t matter if you think it isn’t needed. It isn’t up to you to decide whether people should use that addon or not.
Ever heard of “/ignore” or “/leave General”?
You would be wrong. And blizzard is deciding it isn’t needed by silencing people.
Anyway, I am not wanting to argue with you but stop making up things to harass me.
Blizzard isn’t deciding anything. Everyone knows the silence systems are automatic. Blizz is full of BS.
Blizzard doesn’t silence unless it has been reported. And only those who are upset by the addon are the one reporting.
Please, enlighten me.
How am I making things up, or harrasing you.
EDIT: My bad on the thread, sorry, mistaken you for someone else.
